This was my first time visiting HK Cafe to try their dim sum, and from the moment we walked in, the place was packed with people and full of energy. The atmosphere felt very lively and family-style, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
The dim sum was very good, with a wide variety to choose from, and the quality was better than most places I’ve tried. The servers were attentive and kept things moving smoothly despite how busy it was. Overall, it was a great first experience, and I’ll definitely be back to try more next time.

HK Cafe always hit the spot for my authentic cart dim sum craving! Definitely come early on the weekends because they get SUPER busy! (They open at 9:30am) The restaurant is typical banquet style open space with lots of different table arrangements. Most iconic is the round tables with the lazy susan for family style dining. They also do have 2-person and other rectangle table options as well.

During peak dim sum hour, the carts are rolling through consistently and although the aunties might not be overly friendly, they are fast and efficient with your orders. I didn’t take a picture of all the things we are because I was too busy chowing down but almost everything we tried was delicious!

You got your classics like the egg tart, chicken feet, steamed ribs, shrimp dumplings, chicken sticky rice, steamed rice cakes, sesame balls, bbq pork buns (steamed or baked), gai lan with oyster sauce, and lots of other yummy things to try! I wasn’t overly impressed with their XLB (soup dumplings) no wonder they didn’t give you soup spoons for these because there was basically no soup inside! Also we got the steamed custard buns for the fun designs for the kids. But upon closer look, there was a spicy design on one of them (I censored it in my photo but you can use your imagination) so HK Cafe just FYI on that!

This is the place for fresh dim sum! Take your friends and family here for the full cart experience!

Had dinner here with two of my coworkers and it did not disappoint. I was so happy to eat HK-style food again! It’s been a struggle of mine finding places that remind me of home, so I’m glad that places like this on 82nd exist.

Everything we had was enjoyable, but I have to say the ribs were the best part of the meal!

They’re open on major holidays and serve dim sum all day.

Had an amazing meal at HK Café! Everything we ordered was delicious — the chow fun had that perfect smoky wok flavor, the pepper shrimp was super crispy, and the beef stir-fry was full of flavor. The Szechuan fish was spicy and rich without being overwhelming. We also loved the Shanghai-style dumplings and the tofu clay pot — both comforting and so well made.

The place gets busy, but the service is fast and friendly. It’s great for family-style meals or big groups, and the portions are huge. Definitely one of the best spots in Portland for authentic Chinese food — can’t wait to go back!

One of the best spots in Portland for authentic Cantonese and Chinese comfort food. The dishes are full of flavor and perfectly cooked — the chow fun is silky and smoky, the pepper shrimp is crispy with just the right amount of heat, and the beef stir-fry is tender and savory. The Szechuan fish was another standout — rich, spicy, and full of depth.

The restaurant has a lively, bustling vibe, especially on weekends, and the service is quick even when it’s packed. Portions are generous, making it perfect for sharing with family or friends.

Highly recommend HK Café if you’re craving bold, authentic flavors and a classic Portland dim sum–style dining experience!

If you’re looking for authentic Dim Sum – this is the best I’ve seen in Portland. It’s loud, it’s fast, you aren’t always sure what you’re getting (they nodded for crab- but ugh, it’s more shrimp when you bite in), a lot comes all at once, and then is cold once you eat, and you have too much of one and not another… You have to love the game and try to up your score each time by communicating a bit better, moving a bit faster, being more direct.
If you want authentic Dim Sum- the full experience this is it. Show up ready for it! Everything we ate tasted good and we definitely enjoyed it.
