As I write, there is only one other review that implies this is a restaurant. To be clear: This is two refrigerated shelves at the front of Safeway’s deli counter that offer grab-and-go sushi. There is no “Service” or “Atmosphere” to speak of.
As for the sushi, it’s fine. I just got a 10pc salmon-avocado roll for ten bucks. Not mind-blowingly cheap, but better than a sit-down place. Comes with ginger (yay!) and horseradish, plus complimentary soy sauce packets and chopsticks are available. Watch the chopsticks though. The break on mine wasn’t clean and I couldn’t force the wood apart, so … free chonky chopstick I guess?

I stopped in for a lunch to go and was blown away by the quality. Holy moly, this is great sushi! Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and I appreciate the little details like fresh shiso leaves and great ginger and wasabi. The staff was great, and super welcoming. They are about to add a sake menu too! I walked a few blocks to Orinda Park and enjoyed my lunch there. Heads up Orinda- there is a very high standard of sushi being made right next to Zamboni’s pizza. I should have taken a photo of my maki and sashimi but I devoured it before I had a chance.
