This restaurant opens at 10am on Sundays. We arrived just after 1030 and the restaurant was very dirty. We were seated by a women who had zero interest in serving us. I think she was on the phone in her ear bud. She had to clean a table for us to be able to sit because every table was dirty from the night before.
We took our seat and I noticed that there were piles of dishes in buckets, food from the night before still on the tables, the floor hadn’t been swept or cleaned in any way. We were certainly the first customers of the day so all of this was from the night before. It was disgusting and honestly we should have just left then.
If you can’t be ready for customers at 10am, don’t open at 10am. All of the food was left on the dirty plates and tables over night. I can’t imagine the bugs in this place.
We ordered and while we were waiting, the woman who seated us started cleaning around us: sweeping, wiping tables etc. In between cleaning, she was eating in the back. The pile of salt and dirt she was sweeping off the carpet while we were eating stayed there for over an hour.
There was a man in the back too, I could see him through the curtain, who was also eating WHILE HE WAS PREPARING FOOD!
As for the food – the sushi rolls were massive, like uncomfortable to eat in one bite. They didn’t taste terrible but certainly not the best I’ve ever had. The rice in the cucumber avocado hand roll was sour. The general tao chicken had a potato in it.
Around 1120, several staff members started rolling in, smoking outside the door, clearly breathing their disgusting cigarette breath through the doors as they walked in. And they were SO loud. It was maybe 5 people that showed up, all yelling over each other.
I almost didn’t write a review, thinking maybe they were just very busy and understaffed from the night before as it was Valentine’s Day, but then I got home and was so sick. I hadn’t eaten anything else so there was definitely something wrong with the food I ate.
I would never eat here and I suggest you don’t either. This place should be shut down for health violations.

Small place with about 10 tables, servers are friendly but need to check up on diners more & the owner should consider switching to lab top orders rather than paper sheets. Sushi was just ok, Canadian clam was the best I tried, butterfish should be fresher/thicker, higher grade & for some reason no sushi tuna was available for lunch. General Tao’s chicken was excellent, nice orange flavour, light & crunchy batter & mild spice to it, steak teriyaki was great except some inconsistencies with the tenderness, most were super tender but a few pieces weren’t. Fried cheese wontons & sweet potato were great, not oily & great taste. Portions are generally medium to large compared to some other places in the area. Edamame was for enough for 4 people, chicken was large & seaweed salad was big too. Between the paper sheets for ordering with & staff, many items were missed & the steak that came to me wasnt something I ordered (but accepted it as I was hungry & my whole order came at once so it was a slight delay).They forgot my only order of maki rolls & sushi mackerel was skipped with no explanation. After my first order, I waited too long for a drink top up & had to ask. Pay cash & you can save the tax. Cant turn into parking lot heading North on Weston as you need to turn West at Rutherford.

We recently visited Kyoto Japanese and ordered a variety of dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious.
The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere made the whole experience even better. Whether you’re craving sush, or specialty dishes, Kyoto Japanese is definitely worth a visit.

I used to visit this location frequently before COVID and decided to come back for their all-you-can-eat lunch. The selection was great and the food was fresh, which I really appreciated. However, there are a few things worth noting — they still use paper order sheets instead of iPads like most other sushi spots, which feels a bit outdated. The service was also somewhat slow and uncoordinated; my drinks arrived quite late, and my soup came after the main dishes were already served. Not a huge issue, but something to improve on. Overall, still a good experience with tasty food, just room for some updates and better service flow.

I have been a returning customer for almost 7+ years now. But the food is delicious and the stuff are very knowledgeable about the menu. Special shout out to Jenny, who gives me the best recommendations. Don’t leave here without trying the crispy crab roll cheese, wonton beef, ribs, chicken, udon noodles.

Kyoto Sushi provided a delightful dining experience that I’ll definitely return for! The ambiance was cozy, with a modern yet authentic Japanese vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our needs were met promptly. While most of the sushi was fresh and flavorful, a couple of rolls didn’t quite hit the mark, lacking the complexity I expected. However, the overall experience was fantastic, with great presentation and a welcoming atmosphere. I appreciated the attention to detail and the variety on the menu.
