I traveled up from Toledo to get some Soul food and I’ll TELL YOU WHAT! They did not disappoint. The collard greens were excellent, the Mac and cheese was CHEF’S KISS and the short rib is so tender, juicy and flavorful when I tell you it’s tendernism, it’s TENDERNISM. My food came out a little room temperature but the flavor and tendernism made up the difference for me. My fiancée got the meatloaf and the flavor is impeccable and the sweet potato is to die for just the right sweetness to cover your taste buds. The service was very good and our waitress was nice. The music makes you feel right at home. One critique I would add is just to update the place a little bit. Whether it’s the carpet, the tables and chairs, the color or con newer ambience. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and the food was super delicious! 9.5/10 from me!

We visited Urban Soul for a special family dinner to celebrate two birthdays, and as someone visiting from out of town, I was excited to try a local favorite. The overall experience was warm and welcoming—especially appreciated as we came in from the Michigan cold. We were seated quickly, and the atmosphere had a cozy, down-to-earth vibe that made us feel right at home.
The food itself was delicious and full of flavor—truly soulful cooking. We rated it 4 out of 5 stars and would’ve happily given a full 5 if not for one unfortunate surprise: a Wendy’s condiment wrapper that turned up in the collard greens. While we understand things happen in a busy kitchen, we were disappointed that no one from management came out to apologize or even acknowledge it. Our server mentioned she spoke with the back-of-house team, but no one followed up with our group directly. A simple apology would’ve gone a long way.
That said, our waitress was fantastic—balancing multiple tables with grace and still managing to keep everything running smoothly. Our meals came out promptly, and we had every condiment imaginable at our fingertips (and, clearly, beyond!).
Despite the unexpected “extra ingredient,” we chose to laugh through it and enjoy the night. At the end of the day, we were just grateful to be together and celebrate more years of life. Urban Soul has a lot going for it, and I’d definitely give it another shot—with hopes for both great food and a little extra care from the team next time.

I came to get a carry-out because no one would answer the phone. If I had known they were out of everything, no meatloaf, no yams, no dressing, no greens, no cornbread…I would not have driven so far to get food! Last but not least, the green beans I did get were soooo salty they gave me a headache and I threw them out! Bad business not answering the phone.

My parents and I came on Mother’s Day this year. No one was at the hostess desk. There was another woman there before I got there. We waited 15 minutes, and still no hostess. This was my first time here. An elderly woman decided to cut in front of me and the woman that was in front of me. So the woman in front of me cut in front of the elderly lady and flagged down a waitress. She was seated. I flagged down the same waitress, and she asked what was my name on the sign in list. I told her I didn’t know about a sign in list because no hostess was there. Again, this is my first time there. Idk how this place operates. Eventually, my parents and I were seated. I wanted to order the chicken wings meal but was told they didn’t have any chicken. Next, I decided to order a slab of ribs and was told they didn’t have any ribs. I settled for pork chops, mac & cheese, and baked beans. That meal also came with cornbread (not pictured). The pork chop, mac & cheese, and beans were good. The cornbread was very bland. I didn’t like it at all. The atmosphere is good, but I won’t be returning.

I was in town for work and wanted to have soul food for dinner. Found this gem via Google and they did not disappoint. I had the catfish dinner with yams, greens and dressing. Everything was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning and the peach cobbler was incredible. If I had to have one complaint, it’s that they don’t offer cabbage but that’s a reach because there was nothing to complain about with this meal. I’ll certainly be back when I’m back in Detroit in May.

Let me start off by saying this is the worst place I have eaten from ever we ordered around $65 worth of food I’m going to start off with the mac and cheese the mac and cheese was so mushy it tastes like it was Mashed potatoes I ordered the boneless chicken breast grilled it was still raw and they gave me one breast and claimed it was two they took a breast sliced it in half and there you go two breasts lol order side sweet potatoes they were decent nothing more potato salad did not enjoy potatoes were a little hard and the Mayo was a little funky tasting the mash potatoes was okay the gravy not worth mentioning ,dressing mediocre the catfish was pretty good best thing on the menu which is a very small menu by the way and the pricing was wrong the size were so small and they had the nerve to charge 5 bucks I’m talking four spoons small the ribs had a matchbox taste very disgusting I mean to the Bone these ribs were supposed to be a half slab it looked like a premature baby pig rib the greens were salty and also had a bit of a funky smell I will never return back to this place ever or go near it I paid for my order and did not complain to management I just did not eat it and left it where it was everyone there was over 60 and I mean everyone except for me my wife and my son and we’re almost 40 but I should have known because the crowd was very very small steer clear away from this place trust me I left this place in total shock and disappointment!!!

The food is pretty good, however this wasn’t my best visit. My grilled chicken was over cooked (burnt). I attempted to call back to make them aware but was unable to get through after several attempts. Please check the quality of food before you leave the restaurant to make it is cooked appropriately. I hope that this location addresses the issue for future patrons.

I called in my order to pick up omw to work. When I got to work the order was incorrect. I couldn’t leave work to return the food, but they said if I wanted the food replaced or refunded that I would have to return the food. Today is Sunday and they are closed on mondays. So I have been instructed to keep the food til Tuesday. Its always black owned restaurants that opporate this way. It wasn’t my mistake, it was theirs. They dont compensate you for the 10mins I spent in line waiting to pay for my food, nor the gas I spent to get there, nor the gas ill have to spend to return the food. I will be getting a refund and I wont be returning to this place.
