El Super Rico Taqueria Santa Barbara Review
El Super Rico Taqueria is one of those Santa Barbara staples where simple, honest Mexican comfort food becomes something unforgettable. Fresh tortillas, sizzling meats, and bold, balanced flavors make every plate feel like the definition of “done right.”
The tacos are the highlight juicy, perfectly seasoned, and paired with salsas that bring just the right kick. Even when the line stretches out the door, the food comes out fast and consistently delicious.
And here’s the fun bit of local lore: this was Julia Child’s favorite spot in Santa Barbara. If the queen of French cuisine was lining up for these tacos, you know they’re doing something special.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, El Super Rico Taqueria is a must stop for authentic flavor and that classic SB charm.

Tacos are amazing and well worth the wait. From entering line to getting food, it was about 75 minutes for us however our experience might be an anomaly considering it was a Saturday night and the weekend after Xmas (I don’t think anyone wanted to cook!)

I’ve been coming to La Super-Rica since I was a UCSB student in the late 80s/early 90s. Every time I’m in the area, I make sure to have a meal here. The tamal de verduras is my absolute favorite. On this trip, I told Isidoro that I remembered him from 35 years of visits and we had the sweetest chat. I love that this SB institution is still here, basically unchanged. Always cozy, friendly, affordable and delicious.

Loved every dish we ordered! My favorite was Super-Rica Especial, but can’t go wrong with any dish on the menu. Their horchata was great, too. It’s a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, so the atmosphere isn’t great, but you get your money’s worth. Make sure to bring some cash!

La Super Rica is an absolute gem in Santa Barbara! During our six-day visit, we couldn’t resist coming back three times—it’s just that good. The food tastes like a homemade masterpiece, full of authentic, fresh flavors that you won’t find anywhere else. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience that we’ll be raving about for years!

Homemade tortillas are always a very good sign of a great place to eat. The corn tortillas here are fantastic. The guacamole is very fresh and flavorful as is the salsa bar at the pick up window. The number 16, Super-Rica Especial is the top recommendation by the locals. It has roasted chile pasilla, cheese and marinated pork, on 3 tortillas. It was rather enjoyable and something to try. The number 12) Pechuga Suiza, is grilled chicken breast with melted cheese between 2 corn tortillas. I added some guacamole and their homemade salsa which took this dish to the next level of greatness. I highly recommend trying it. I also tried the chili relleno which comes in a white cream sauce instead of the typical red sauce. It was very cheese but not my cup of tea. I wouldn’t order it again. If you’re in Santa Barbara I would recommend heading over to La Super-Rica. The food is good, the people working there are so very friendly and the restaurant is super clean.

An awesome find for us, what amazing food and friendly staff. This place is just unreal and some of the best tacos we’ve had. Limited seating a can gt very busy but we went midweek and was so impressed. CASH ONLY and you’ll need about $50 for a couple (we had a lot!). Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our time at La Super Rica. We liked the tacos de adobado as well as chorizo tacos/quesadillas. The meat was the star of the show to us. I felt that it was really well made and the tortillas were also good. We also got the chile con queso which neither of us loved. Overall, our food was solid and I am glad we came here but I did feel that it was overhyped for what it was.
Note- it is cash only.

Cash only business, bought 4 tacos and a couple tamales, somehow came up up $38 even though tacos are $3.45.
Tamales barely had any meat on them. Very long lines, but am not sure what the hype is about. Maybe lines out the door because they spend so long at the counter doing cash transactions.
Crowds attract crowds but personally I don’t think they are worth the hype. They were friendly however. I’ll give them that
