From the very beginning of the planning process, Vittorio was responsive, accommodating, and incredibly easy to work with. From menu selections to bar planning, he made us feel completely sure that everything would be handled seamlessly.
On the day of our wedding, Vittorio and his team were outstanding. The service was professional, they were attentive to our guests, and ensured everything ran smoothly. The drinks were excellent and the food was delicious! We received countless compliments throughout the night.
Vittorio and the Trattoria da Vittorio team truly helped make our day unforgettable!
Trattoria da Vittorio (150 West Portal Ave, San Francisco, CA 94127) exceeded expectations for a Monday night business dinner. This is the kind of neighborhood gem that makes West Portal special.
The chicken Milanese was outstanding – perfectly crispy breading with a tender, juicy interior that showcased the quality you’d expect from Mamma Francesca’s recipes. The portion was generous at a moderate price point that makes sense for regular visits. Our server provided cordial, professional service that allowed us to conduct business comfortably without feeling rushed.
What truly distinguished the evening was experiencing the authentic Southern Italian hospitality that owner Vittorio D’Urzo has built his reputation on. Two separate tables celebrated birthdays with traditional Italian birthday songs, and in a genuinely spontaneous moment, another patron stood and played a beautiful short trumpet piece. The entire restaurant applauded – this is the kind of warm, communal atmosphere you simply can’t manufacture.
The restaurant itself is inviting with stone accents and wooden tables that create the perfect balance between casual comfort and business-appropriate ambiance. Having seen their nearly 5-star rating with 1,100+ Yelp reviews, I understand why West Portal residents consider this their go-to spot.
Perfect for: business dinners, date nights, family celebrations, or casual pizza nights. The homemade pasta and Neapolitan thin crust pizzas looked equally impressive.
If you’re seeking authentic Calabrian cuisine in San Francisco’s West Portal neighborhood without downtown prices or formality, Trattoria da Vittorio delivers exceptional food, service, and that rare neighborhood warmth every single time.
He and his team also handled all of the linens, passed out appetizers, cleared tables and filled water glasses, etc.
I cannot praise Vittorio and his team enough! Everyone loved the food and many went back for multiple servings. His team was kind and attentive in their service. Vittorio was so easy to work with, was very flexible with us changing the date or number of guests. He prepared us an incredible tasting at his restaurant so we were confident about the food.
The price point for the quality of food was also fantastic and way more affordable than most of my friends’ caterers for their weddings.
Cheers to Vittorio and team! Thank you so much! – the Akkads
Overall not worth the price.
Doesn’t feel like authentic Italian food. Do yourself a favor and go to Little Joe’s down the street for takeout. Better value and quality

5-19-25 update- we had our wedding. The food was AMAZING! All the guests loved everything and Vittorio and his team did an excellent job serving!!!!!!! We changed our menu to be: Homemade Fiocchetti pasta, chicken piccata, short ribs, mashed potatoes, fresh veggies, bread and cedar salad. Hands down would hire him again and again! It was a pleasure working with him. I’m only sad I don’t have pictures. Will update if I receive any of the food !
From the initial tasting to the actual wedding day, his team’s professionalism, friendliness, and execution were top notch. His team was actually the only caterer we did a tasting with, since the food at the tasting was incredible, and the service was some of the best we had experienced at any restaurant. So it was a done deal for us, especially considering his very reasonable prices.
At the wedding, we received countless compliments on the food and service, and we only left with one tray of leftovers since everyone had gone up for seconds (and thirds!). I don’t think you can find a better value, better team, or better food than Vittorio’s team can serve. We’re so lucky that we can go back to his restaurant anytime we want whenever we’re feeling nostalgic about our wedding day. (Go to his restaurant! It’s honestly some of the best Italian in the city. The eggplant parm is fabulous, and I usually don’t like eggplant.)
Meal/Time: Dinner Sunday 523PM
Seated: 523PM
Ordered: 532PM
First ordered item arrived: 540PM
Decor/Atmosphere: Italian cafe, wine
Service/ Front of the House:
Greeted and seated immediately
Service/Serving Staff: order taker did not introduce himself. Asked if we had any questions. Service Staff not engaging.
After we got our appetizers the waitstaff became more attentive. They cleared the starter plates and replaced the used silverware…really appreciate it.
Did not come around to see if I wanted a refill of my iced tea.
Food:
Grilled Polenta with Gorgonzola Mushroom cream sauce $20. Not bad… you can really taste the cheese. I did not see any grill marks on the Polenta. It was more of a slight pan crisper then grilled.
Fried Calamari and artichoke $22. Cooked perfectly. Crispy, tender and moist. Crust is light and airy.
For the main course, I had the “grilled” Branzino $32. The dish was served with mashed potatoes and Brussel Sprouts. The brazino was more pan fried then grilled. The dish was really good and a real keeper. The fish was juicy and flaky with perfect amount of salt and lemon. The Brussel Sprouts were tender and not bitter. Mashed was bit watery but good nevertheless.
Value: good value for the quality of the meal. Service could be a bit better.
Restroom: single unisex. Spacious with baby changing table. It was stocked
Will I come back?: Yes…the short ribs looked tempting.
