My friend and I stopped at Satchmos’s for lunch and we ordered a brisket and pulled pork sandwich with Cajun tater tot’s. The pulled pork was super moist and delicious with their spicy and sweet bbq sauce options. We really liked their welcoming atmosphere and the yummy food. Shout out to Matty G for highlighting all their popular menu items and for making sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this spot for lunch!

Came here for lunch with a friend and it was delicious! Don’t be fooled by the outside… inside is clean and has the cutest decorations and cozy atmosphere. If you’re in Flagstaff and looking for authentic Southern comfort food, Satchmo’s is a must. From the moment you walk in, the smell of smoked meats and spices lets you know you’re in for something special. The vibe is laid-back and welcoming—no frills, just great food and friendly service.
I ordered the catfish and gumbo, and both were absolutely outstanding. The catfish was perfectly fried—crispy golden crust on the outside, moist and flaky on the inside. It wasn’t greasy at all, and the seasoning had just the right kick. Easily some of the best I’ve had outside the Deep South.
The gumbo was rich, hearty, and full of flavor. Loaded with sausage, chicken, and just the right amount of spice, it had that homemade taste that’s hard to find. You can tell they put real care and soul into every bite.
Sides were on point too—cornbread was moist with a slight sweetness, and the mac and cheese was creamy and comforting. The portion sizes were generous, and everything came out fresh and hot.
Service was quick and friendly, even with a steady crowd. It’s clear that Satchmo’s is a local favorite, and now I see why. Whether you’re passing through or live nearby, this is a spot worth stopping for. Southern flavor done right in the heart of Arizona.
Highly recommend the catfish and gumbo, but honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

Prices are huge, portions are tiny. Food is passable, not terrible but not amazing. As someone who grew up on authentic home cooked Cajun food, I was a little disappointed. $20 for a 4-5″ lunch poboy is pretty steep. At those prices I’ll be a poboy too if I frequent this place!

Nice little place. We got 1/2 lb of pulled pork. It comes with 4 slider rolls. It was pretty good. They had spicy and sweet sauce, and while I like spicy things, the sweet was definitely better. We also got a side of their smoked baked beans. They were just ok.

I came for my 6 month anniversary and it’s our first time up in flagstaff and we craved some warm food, we decided on BBQ. We came to Satchmo’s because of the high rating and good reviews. Let’s just say, we were disappointed. We ordered the blackened catfish I believe it was, and 1b of beef brisket. We also ordered the tater tots, and a potato salad for our sides. The fish was not very flavorful and I tasted black pepper than anything else. The brisket was COLD. We were hungry so we ate all of it anyways because it’s late and we’ve been driving since the morning and we craved a warm fulfilling meal. The tater tots were good, flavorful and spicy and crunchy with a soft inside. The potato salad was decent, the potatoes were hard and there wasn’t a whole lot of flavor. We paid $78 for this meal…and to be completely honest, the meal wasn’t worth $78. At best, $40-50. The place has a high rating of 4.6 stars, I don’t feel like this meal was 4.6 stars worthy.

Food is great. I’ve been a couple of times, and everything has been very good. I’ve tried the ribs and the pulled pork, both were excellent. Perfectly cooked and great flavor. For me, the spicy sauce was just okay (not actually spicy and didn’t love the flavor), but the sweet sauce was very good. The meat has such great flavor, didn’t really need any sauce. The Pitmaster’s Smoked Beans were amazing, great flavor. The Tater Tot Basket was very good, but pretty greasy. The Cornbread Basket was just okay, very greasy and flavor was not great; will not get the cornbread again.
Staff is SUPER friendly. Like, SUPER DUPER friendly. They all seem really happy to be working there, which is really nice.

Ribs are very soft but the sauce are quite normal. Sweet bbq is better than the spicy one. The Jambalaya are quite good and has an interesting taste. Lemonade is quite good too.
Burnt ends although are crispy but they are too dry, would not recommend.

Went with some friends to satchmos the server was nice. They were out of the brisket which bummed us out, so we got the ribs which were okay. Good flavor but not worth the price. One of my friends got rice for days and alot of spice in it but not much catfish
