I feel like the internet heightened my expectations for this place way beyond its merit.
We had broasted chicken breasts, a cheeseburger, and a turkey bacon melt.
The chicken breasts were “okay.” Not bad, but not exactly full of flavor or excitement. At least they were fairly juicy inside. The burger was overcooked, the patty not well formed (it fell apart in chunks), and topped with a kraft single, served on a cold bun. The turkey melt was actually pretty good, but the cheese was really stretchy and stringy.
The coleslaw was also pretty good.
The staff were perfectly friendly, but one of my sides came out wrong in spite of the waitress writing it down properly on the ticket.
There was really just nothing exceptional about the place. It’s “fine.” I will note that the prices were pretty reasonable compared to what you’ll find most places.

I LOVE THE ALVA DINER! I’m not gonna lie – I hated on this place before but boy has this grown on me. My grandma and I got here once a week and it’s seriously magical. If you have any questions on what to get- GET THE BROASTED CHICKEN. I would do anything for that glorious broasted chicken. ANYTHING

Wow is all I can say about portions. It does not matter what you order there is always enough to take home for another meal. Prices are more than reasonable. Staff is always pleasant. A definite do over place on our favourite list. Oh the chicken had so many pieces I had two plate to hold it

The food is getting better. Their tomato soup today was out of this world delicious! I hope it becomes a weekly special. Update 3/17 today is St Patrick’s and they cooked the best corn beef & cabbage. They really outdid themselves this year.

The building is extremely old and not appealing on the outside or inside BUT, you will be pleasantly surprised with the food. We ordered fried chicken, burgers and a meatloaf. I sampled my husbands fried chicken and all I can is OUTSTANDING. The pieces were enormous, juicy and what flavor!! Excellent. My bacon cheese burger was very good. I wanted it well done and it was more medium. Otherwise I believe it would have been excellent. I didn’t try the meatloaf so I can’t rate it. The place needs some work but I believe the appeal here is the fact that it’s pretty old, simple with good old home cooking flavor. Remember, when they start investing in the ambiance “PRICES GO UP”. I CAN HANDLE THE PLACE JUST THE WAY IT IS FOR NOW. Don’t be so quick to dismiss them, check them out you may also be pleasantly surprised!!

Just like you’d expect from a country small town dinner, and we loved it. Great food, fast service and really nice people. Enough space for about 80 people (indoors) But there are tables and space outside too. ⚠️Be ware⚠️ NO CREDIT CARD accepted, BUT you can use ZELLE or VENMO or CASH. They have a sign outside…You’ve been warned… Great coffee (and coffee cups), the homemade warm apple pie with vanilla icecream is awesome. I had a bacon cheese burger, with cheese fries with bacon. My wife had the turkey BLT. A lot of senior people go here, THIS IS KEY. Older folks only go to the best places. If I personally, don’t see seniors at the places I want to visit, it is not a good spot. And this diner had 20 years open, and obviously has a loyal following. I recommend this place.

We stopped into the Alva diner on Wednesday around 12:30pm. This place is old school Florida, its very basic but clean and neat. They do not take credit cards so make sure you have cash. We got a seat immediately as they were not that busy. Our waitress Tara took our drink orders and came back fast for our food order. The menu looks small but is larger than what you think. I believe there is something for everyone in there including Broasted Chicken Dinners or pieces to go. I ordered the Open-faced Turkey with Mashed Potatoes, gravy, and coleslaw. My wife ordered the Scallops, Carrots, Mashed Potatoes and Salad. Our Friend ordered a Hamburger with Fries and Cole Slaw. Tara brough us some rolls and my wife’s salad to hold us over until our main food order came out. Our main food order came out fast and it looked great. My Open-Faced Turkey and Mashed filled my plate. It was very tasty, but I do wish it would have been a little hotter and my bread did not have much gravy on it under the Turkey. My wife’s Scallops were hot and very good as was everything else she had. Our friends Hamburger and fries filled his plate, and everything was hot and very good. This is a small diner with a large menu, large portions plus prices are not that bad. Make sure you visit this place you will not be sorry. I give this place 4 out of 5 stars.
