A neat Western Steak House in downtown SLC. When you walk in you’re greeted with an old-school western vibe. The woodwork and decor are warm and reminiscent of a simpler time, but kept clean and maintained. The service is exceptional. The staff was helpful and very knowledgeable. It’s been a while since we’ve had a server give suggestions and able to answer based of her experience with the food. The food arrived in a reasonable time and was cooked as we requested. If you’re looking for a steak house that has good service and won’t break the bank, check this place out.

Stepping into Ruby River on a bustling Saturday evening is an experience in itself. The restaurant has managed to strike a perfect and difficult balance, feeling both refreshingly new and deeply rooted in the classic character of a beloved steakhouse. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with rich wood tones and comfortable lighting that creates an atmosphere of relaxed elegance. It’s the ideal setting for a special occasion or, in our case, simply a perfect weekend dinner, setting a fantastic stage for the meal to come.
Of course, the main event is the food, and it is simply unbelievable. While the menu has many incredible options, the Porterhouse is a true showstopper. Yes, it commands a premium price, but it is an investment in culinary perfection that is worth every single penny. What truly sets Ruby River apart is the phenomenal skill of their chefs. When you ask for medium rare, you don’t receive something in the ballpark—you are served the textbook definition of medium rare, with a flawless sear giving way to a warm, brilliantly red center. It’s a clear testament to a kitchen staff that are true masters of their craft.
Tying the entire experience together is the service, which remains, as usual, absolutely spectacular. The staff moves with a polished efficiency and genuine warmth that makes you feel both welcomed and well-cared-for from the moment you arrive. They are attentive without being intrusive and knowledgeable about every aspect of the meal. It is this powerful combination of a wonderful atmosphere, flawlessly executed food, and impeccable service that makes Ruby River a consistent and undeniable standout in the Salt Lake dining scene.

Usually have had good food here, not last night.
We ordered ribs and chix combo and 16oz ribeye. Ribs ok, chix was past well done.
Ordered steak MR, came MW-W, ok, sent it back. Server was nice, new steak comes out and it’s raw, not rare, raw with a little outside color. Showed the server, another? She asked, nope, the cook is 0 for 2, I’m good. When done with our food she offers a free desert and she took the steak off the bill.
The apple crisp was seriously inedible, we didn’t say a word. Oh my, that was bad.

We were sat promptly after entering. We ate for dinner on Sunday night. Server did a great job. We had a problem with one of our steaks being well done vs medium rare. It seemed a little small for a six oz. When our Server got us a new one you could see size and proper cooking temperature of the steak. I felt like the appetizers were small for how much you pay.

My husband and I went out for date night on Saturday, July 5th around ~7:30pm. He loves steak and was very fulfilled with the flavor of his steak. Our server Allie H. was great and friendly! We will definitely come back to visit again greetings from Omaha, Nebraska

Stopped in for a nice lunch. Arrived prior to 2 pm. No one there but 1 other couple. Ordered half rack pork ribs and sweet potato fries and an extra wedge salad.
Salad was nice size. Bacon bites were great and not fatty. The blue cheese dressing was on the runny side and without a good blue cheese flavor. This was disappointing. The pork ribs are a nice size. The meat was very, very dry. The BBQ sauce is very sweet. I was not able to eat them due to the meat’s dryness.
There is no table bread that is served. There is a slight Southwest feel to some parts of the menu. They also have teriyaki flavoring.
Always a risk to not have steak at a steak house. I would go back to try the steak. Sweet Potato fries are amazing. They come with a side of fry sauce. Would get those again.
Price of lunch was expected based on brand but to much based on quality of the food served.
Staff was very nice.

We when on a early on a Sunday arriving at 5:30 to ensure that we would be prime rib available to order. Well wouldn’t you know it they were out. Disappointing! We order anyway. Myself a rib eye steak and my wife a tenderloin. They service was subpar. Very slow and hit and miss. We finally recieved our food. We were out to have a pleasant evening. They quality of the food was poor at best. My steak was something that you would expect to get at a low level diner. No flavor and though. The baked potato had a black clump on one end. My wife say that her food was ok. Very disappointing!

The service was awful. Sat for ten minutes before we were greeted and the waitress took our drinks. We ordered the sampler as an appetizer and the cheese was not melted on the cheese fries and the steak in the egg rolls was chewy. I got the combo the half wrack of ribs and the 6 Oz steak. The ribs were dry i order the asparagus as a side which was BLAND. No butter. No seasoning. My boyfriend ordered the hamburger and literally only took two bites because it was bland. The waitress told us she’d be bringing us a refresher for our drinks and took another solid ten minutes. My boyfriend complained to the manager and they offered to only refund the APPETIZER. Absolutely trash. Will never recommend. I will tell everyone i know about this experience.

We’ve spent seven days in Utah. This was the best meal we have had and under $100 for our family of 4.
The service was great. The steaks were delicious. Definitely recommend the fried pickle spears also.

Also, thanks to the honest employee that put up my puffy jacket. I came back this morning hoping it would be there and it was!!!

We visited on March 8, 2025 Josh H was our server. He did a great job. Food was excellent. Served hot and fresh. Atmosphere was pleasant. Prices are fair. Will certainly be coming back.
There was another server (Female) who was helpful as well but cannot recall her name. All in all a great experience.
I will say the Buffalo wings impressed me. Larger than I expected, and certainly spicier (in a good way) will have to check if they do take out as I’d love to get some more of the Buffalo wings next time I’m in SLC.
