We started going here when the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) hosted special tasting events. Always impressed by the food (appetizers mostly) served during these events, we finally had dinner with friends. Besides an outstanding selection of whiskys, we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food. The small plates are very generous in size with the sticky lamb ribs and braised baby beets as standouts. The grilled pork chop was also very tasty and a HUGE size! A wonderful evening with great service.

We went here for the whiskey selection but loved everything about the place. We started with the chicken skins and they were so good! I could have just ate those all night and been happy.

My husband got the Asian whiskey flight and the waitress brings the bottles for you to see with the drams and gives a short explanation (much better than a lot of wineries/distilleries we visit). I ordered the Desert Flower cocktail which was just amazing!

For dinner, I had the pasta dish and my husband ordered the pork chop. The pasta was delicious but the pork chop was out of this world! My husband also talked to the waitress about what he likes in a whiskey and put in some specific requests and a price point and she hit the mark with the one she brought back for him.

We were just overall very pleased with our experience and will definitely return when we visit DC.

I had a great (albeit very short) visit in DC and stopped by Jack Rose Dining Saloon. The cocktails were excellent — especially if you enjoy whiskey — and their weekday happy hour is a great deal, including their appetizers.

Overall, the service during my visit was fantastic and I’d highly recommend this spot

Update: There was an unfortunate billing issue after my visit, but management handled it kindly and resolved it quickly, which I greatly appreciated.

This isn’t just another overpriced New American restaurant! I didn’t come for the whisky selection per se, but the seasonal cocktail I got was one of my favorite cocktails ever. It was a pumpkin infused whisky drink that was incredibly spirit forward and not too sweet in any way. I also got one of the single barrel cocktails. The deviled eggs, tartare, and Mac and cheese balls were all wonderful appetizers. I got the pork chop as my main which might have been my favorite pork chop ever. My two friends really enjoyed their crab cakes, although they are small so maybe don’t order if you’re very hungry. The flash fried Brussels were great too!! Katie and Michael were both fantastic servers!

A must for whisk(e)y lovers visiting DC. This is the Library of Congress for whisky. Exceptional selection and friendly staff make this a fun place to try out new drams. We found a table on a Thursday evening!

You can spend as much as you want here because they have it all, including normally unobtainable whiskies that aren’t widely available as bottles. (Over two visits we tried Springbank Amontillado Cask & Local Barley, Cadenheads Campbeltown Enigma, plus Dailuane and Ledaig Independent Bottlings.) But you can enjoy without breaking the bank by looking at their $10 drams.

The bartenders have good knowledge of their library – set your price and state your preference for a recommendation or check out their zillion-page menu, which includes scotch, bourbon, rye, and world whisk(e)y from Ireland, Wales, England, India, and the USA. SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society) members will find a selecting of their bottlings here.

Don’t be put off by the offer of ice, you can get a water dropper but you have to ask.

More in the way of education could be offered here. It might require more staff but it might be fun for many patrons to have a built-in learning experience (maybe online guides to types, regions, and flavors).

Jack Rose Dining Saloon is an absolute must-visit for any bourbon lover. Hands down, the best bourbon selection I’ve ever seen—it’s not just extensive, it’s curated, thoughtful, and clearly built by people who genuinely care about whiskey. You could spend hours exploring their list and still not scratch the surface.

The service was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic without being pretentious. The staff made great recommendations and elevated the whole experience.

The food? It was fine, but honestly, I didn’t come here for the food—and that’s not a knock. Jack Rose is about the whiskey, the atmosphere, and the experience, and on those fronts it absolutely delivers.

If bourbon is your passion, Jack Rose is a bucket-list destination. I’ll be back—many times.

I loved the whiskey tasting and the knowledgeable experts that guided us through the experience. As far as the food goes, it was mediocre at best. We tried most of the items on the menu and were not impressed. I’ll definitely keep coming back for the whiskey experience though.

Jack Rose is a D.C. institution. It’s in Adams Morgan and comes with plenty of seating and an impressive whiskey selection. On top of that, they have lots of cocktail options.

For my birthday, my wife got us a small private room on the second floor with our own bar. It was beautiful and more quiet compared to the main space. It was the perfect place to end my birthday weekend.
