Portion size was the only plus. They need to change the grease. The food was unseasoned and for my first time going I was absolutely unimpressed. I will not be returning.

Update: Went back in here after two years, the place is less inviting. I got the pork chop sandwich and it was delicious. It is served on a dinner roll.

Amazing food and wonderful people!

Had the smoked sausage with a side of collards, a roll and a lemonade to wash it down. The smoke sausage is scored before they smoke it getting that flavor all through the sausage and giving it a nice texture. I got it smothered with gravy and onions. It comes on a bed of rice but I am not supposed to be eating carbs so I asked for no rice, that was a huge mistake. The gravy was so good I thought to myself this needs some rice. The sausage is spicy but not Thai food hot. The menu says the dinner is $15.75 but I didn’t get the dinner, so mine was only $10.50, this is an amazing price for all of this delicious food.

The collards were really good, they had some red pepper flakes to spice them up and they were not over cooked. Some places that make large batches will let it cook too long before they serve it. They still had a good texture which made you realize you were eating a fresh cooked product. I thought they gave me extra collards because I told him I didn’t want rice but after I asked them, they told me that’s how much collards you get. It was served with a 24 ounce iced lemonade which was really good, hit the spot with that spicy sausage.
Now let’s talk about the people in there. I dealt with three people and they were the nicest you would ever meet. I saw in some of the reviews there were issues with employees but I just wonder if someone was having a bad day. Besides, it takes two to make a bad experience.
The lady Who took my order was very helpful with the menu when I told her I was trying not to eat fried food. The guy that served my food and got my drink was very courteous and made sure I had everything I needed. When I was done I talked to the lady again along with a man that I think does all the smoking. We talked for a few minutes and I could tell they were genuinely good people, I don’t know if they were family but they seem to be.

I watched a lady order the oxtail dinner and both her sides were yams. I don’t know what they do with these yams but next time I’m ordering that. She said they were delicious. I also wanna try the crabcakes and a few other items. The menu in my pictures isn’t accurate as they had some things penciled in on a different menu, I get the feeling that they cook what’s on the menu and occasionally add a few things which is very homely.

Eat here, you will feel like you’re back in your grandmothers kitchen.

They were out of a lot of items even with it being an early Friday afternoon so I was left with choosing the fish/shrimp combo. The food was okay. Cabbage was a missle so it made up for it, but that fish and shrimp were trash. Not sure what kind of batter/flour was used but they should opt for something else along with no taste to it. I wasn’t a big fan of the Mac either, cornbread was okay. To spend over $20 for mid food and it comes no drink was disappointing. I do believe in second chances so I might come back lol

Ordered smothered Porkchops with collards and cabbage. First the sides, the cabbage were mushy and collards were salty to point I couldn’t eat them. I forgot that most food place just pour gravy over a pchop when u order smothered, it’s not the same to me if it’s not cooked down in the gravy. A spoon was in utensils pk so I tried to spoon gravy on pchop as most was at bottom of container, gravy was ok not homemade probably but it was ok.

Never understood why the phone numbers didn’t work when they had one or why they don’t have a phone number now but…..

The macaroni and cheese was good. The yams are beyond good
The bake chicken was a dry but still good. (I took a piece off to make sure it was done)
The friend chicken didn’t have any seasoning so it was very bland
The corn bread was ok…wasn’t sweet

Not really one to leave reviews but I’m from Southwest Georgia and this is by far the best soul food I’ve had in ages. The portions sizes are amazing and the flavor is truly to die for. Hands down best soul food spot in the state. Worth every penny.

Definitely not as good as they were when they were on military. Grease taste old. Portions smaller. Rough atmosphere. Hope they get back on track soon

For them to have a dine in option where there were just 2 tables and 3 chairs to a table. Service was horrible. The trash looked like it wasn’t taken out in a week or so. The shrimp had no flavor.

This use to be my favorite spot on N . Military hwy. The one in Chesapeake is not as good: Customer service was a 2 out of 10. Attitude on 10 from cashier. Ate inside. No salt or pepper on the tables or hot sauce, which would have helped the unseasoned wings. The Pork Chops were hot and nicely seasoned: I loved the green beans (even tho you can tell it’s canned) nicely seasoned. Yams were ! I didn’t mind the Mac and Cheese. My daughter didn’t like them tho. . Overall would I recommend this spot. Sorry to do this to a black owned spot. But don’t waste your time and money.
