Reviews
They evolved from the time we were hunted as prey, and remain as an eternal ability to tell us if we are in danger or not.
Recently my wife and I celebrated our birthdays, being a month apart we selected a day that was kind of in between. Now we needed a place. We chose the Ranchito at 19530 US-281 in 78221 San Antonio.
What my sensory abilities told me right off was a memory, my grandmother’s house. The smell of her beans. The anticipation of her enchiladas sent every one of the male species into a frenzy. Her friendly smile and the way she would listen to your every word as if you two were the only people in a room. She was my mentor on so many levels. And I truly miss her.
The Ranchito has every Hallmark of a good mom and pop Mexican restaurant. The waitress Margarita is very friendly, she makes you feel as if you’re more than a patron, something much more important…. Family. The food spoke for itself. The Enchilada sauce slow cooked with beef and spices, not from a can and not just slapped together. Even the chips and salsa were made with purpose.
Cooking technique is just as much a part of a cooks DNA as is his blood and sweat. The Hallmark of a good cook is the ingredients he puts in, not the physical ones, but the spiritual. It’s a love for ones craft.
If you want to experience something beyond the “what’s expected” please come visit The Ranchito.

UPDATE:
There are a few things I’d like to add to my review.
The chips taste good but are a little bit too hard and the tortillas could be a little softer, too. But the one real complaint that caused me to lower my score from 5⭐ to 4⭐ is their carne guisada plate as a lunch/dinner special. Their specials seem to be $1 less then the regular menu price and comes with a tea (you can’t get coffee, instead). The carne guisada plate is regularly $10.99 and comes with rice, beans, guacamole and salad. On special it’s $9.99 w/tea however the guacamole is not included. This doesn’t make any sense. They don’t allow any substitutions on their specials yet they’re going to remove an item that comes with it? I was very disappointed when I found it missing from my plate. Your food is great but there’s no need to make your customers feel cheated.
