We decided to try Starvin Arvins after hearing good things, but it just wasn’t for us. The portions were decent, but the food tasted like it had been microwaved and heavily salted. The gravy had a visible oily layer on top, and the mashed potatoes seemed instant rather than homemade. Nothing about it felt slow-cooked or fresh.
It didn’t taste like rich comfort food. It tasted like you were licking a salt shaker. If you’re someone who doesn’t mind extremely salty, reheated style meals, you might be fine with it. But for anyone watching sodium or expecting real home cooking, this just wasn’t it for us.

Had the roasted turkey with mash tators and green beans pintos on the side extra paid a little over 15.00 dollars. Nothing tasted home made. Green beans over salted, tators was out of a bag, pintos was canned. The turkey was good the corn bread was eatable. Over all just not my type of home cooked meal for the money. P.S. the ladies when asked about the food replied they just serve the food.

I got the turkey and gravy. This is not processed sliced turkey…. It’s pulled right off a real turkey and is like thanksgiving day turkey. It’s fantastic. Highly recommend. I also got the macaroni and cheese which was very creamy and delicious. The green beans were great and the sweet corn was wonderful also.

Just took my family to Starvin Arvins for the first time and we were all blown away by the quality of food and the service. Quinn was super kind and professional and knew his way around the menu. The food was truthfully 12/10. Think your grandmother who’s been feeding her family since she was 16 level of good. We had the Turkey, Chicken N Dumplings, sweet potato casserole, hash brown casserole, mashed potatoes and corn. As I write this review my 10 year old niece just said “ooooh my tummy is so full but I cannot stop eating, it’s so good”. Which is a great synopsis of this experience. Hats off to Arvin and the team, this is great!

I gave Starvin Arvins another try after seeing a recent review, but it was still a huge disappointment. The pinto beans tasted like they were straight from a can. The green beans were so salty I couldn’t eat them, especially with high blood pressure. The mashed potatoes were clearly instant, and when you spoon them out there’s an oily, butter-looking liquid left sitting in the bottom of the bowl.
The open-faced pot roast had a greasy sheen floating on top of the gravy. You could literally see the oil sitting on the surface. The meat looked thin and processed, more like reheated deli-style beef covered in heavy brown gravy than actual slow-cooked pot roast. Everything looked and tasted microwaved and overloaded with salt.
And the cornbread was the worst part old, greasy, and just bad. I’ve honestly never had cornbread like that. I really wish we had more restaurants around here that focused on real, fresh, homemade cooking instead of food that looks reheated and swimming in grease.

I had the pot roast meal with chicken and dumplings and green beans. The quality of the actual meat was great, but the taste on everything except the green beans was extremely bland. I feel like the quality of the food was good. Just absolutely no flavor. Salt and pepper could not even doctor this up. I hate to write this review.

I really wanted to like this place. I was excited that it was home cooking and had such great reviews. However, I was not impressed. I ordered the turkey meal with mashed potatoes and gravy with green beans. My husband had the baked steak with corn and cole slaw. The mashed potatoes were instant which isn’t a bad thing but these tasted like they had been fixed with water and salt, no cream or butter. The corn tasted like it came straight from the can with no added butter or anything. The cole slaw was not handmade but tasted like pre packaged. The green beans with overly salted and swimming in liquid. My husband’s baked steak tasted good but was one very small piece. This is just my honest opinion.

This place was absolutely great! Great food, great staff, great prices and great atmosphere! If you haven’t stopped by here, you gotta try this home cooked food! Make sure to take your picture and so them on the inside for your free cookie!
