We visited Schwarzwaldstube for my birthday shortly after it reopened, and it remains one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had. From the very first moment, the service stood out for its genuine kindness and warmth. Every interaction felt personal and sincere, and we felt truly welcome at every step of the evening.

The food is simply perfection – beautifully executed and incredibly thoughtful, yet impossible to fully put into words. It’s the kind of cuisine that has to be experienced rather than described. The wine recommendations were excellent and tailored to our preferences, even without choosing a full pairing. Getting the chance to genuinely chat with the chef as he made his way through the restaurant was the cherry on top of it all.

The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, making it easy to fully enjoy the experience. Being from the region, this restaurant had long been on my bucket list, and it exceeded every expectation. I honestly can’t wait to return!

Extremely good food, cooking methods, flavours, really one of the best if not the best fine dining food that we’ve tasted! No frills unlike some other Michelin starred restaurants which try to incorporate sounds, sights, etc, but the flavours really stood out here compared to other places. We felt that the degustation menu 1 had more unique flavours – the caviar was great, scallops were sweet and the yuzu ice cream at the side gave the dish a refreshing feel, langoustine and turbot were flavourful and went really well with the crispy macadamia couscous, and the veal was mind-blowing. There were so many parts of the veal in the dish – liver, kidney, sweetbread, meat itself, and the essence in the sauce, and they all had unique textures, flavours that were really accentuated and perfected with the sauce! The small bites and appetiser had great flavours too

Service was excellent, we were very well taken care of throughout! Mr Finkbeiner from the hotel and Chef Michel came around to talk with each table which was a nice touch.

This restaurant is an amazing, a true icon of the Black Forest that lives up to its reputation. Every detail was meticulously crafted, and each dish was executed with precision and perfection. It’s a must visit if you are in this region of Germany!

We were truly looking forward to our evening at Schwarzwaldstube — a 3-star Michelin institution known for excellence. We hoped this visit would be another dining highlight.

The evening started on a promising note: the service team kindly acknowledged my husband’s birthday, and the initial two amuse-bouches from the kitchen were beautifully presented and delightful in flavor. Mr. Finkbeiner’s personal greeting also left a warm impression, reflecting genuine care for the guests.

However, as the evening progressed, our expectations began to dim. Sadly, the overall culinary experience did not live up to what we expect from a restaurant of this caliber — or to the standard we’ve experienced in other establishments.

The courses that followed were competently executed but lacked the spark, creativity, and innovation we associate with truly memorable dining. The presentation, too, felt uninspired. (A quick glance at our photos confirmed that feeling.) Beyond Valentine — who was exceptional and deserves sincere praise — the service felt somewhat distant and impersonal. Notably, no one from the kitchen made an appearance, and there was no personalized gesture from the kitchen to mark the birthday — not even a simple touch on the dessert plate, which was a disappointment given the occasion and the restaurant’s standing.

We’re left unsure whether we caught an off night, or whether this is representative of the current norm. Either way, spending nearly €900 on a dinner that felt so emotionally disconnected was deeply disheartening. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we would not be inclined to return.

They deserve the 3 stars! We tried the large tasting menu and it wasn’t too much even including the other surprise bites because we’re afraid we couldn’t finish it. Wish we could eat more of the cheese and chocolates because you can take as much as you can but we were so full. We were comfortably full after 5 hours, it was so worth it. I say it’s not a meal but an experience. Every dish was beautiful, unique and delicious. You should try the large tasting menu because that’s the real amazing experience here and it has the really good lobster dish. The atmosphere was also smart casual and not snobby. Very relaxed and the staff are very attentive and enthusiastic.

i was there september 2019, was before the fire! always be my first top list of real michelin restaurant in the world, old style but excellent one. stay at the traube tonbach for two nights and take a walk along the river and village in the black forest nearby. the autum venison with chanterelle and other wild mushroom was exquisite. their selection of vieux fromage are immense with quality. nothing fancy but classy with their esteem! always in my top list after my alcase trip and baden baden.

Had dinner here 5 years ago and still reminisce about how great that meal was. That cheese course at the end of the meal is still a cheesy high I have been chasing ever since. If you are lucky enough to eat here, save room for dessert (and by dessert I mean cheese). AND YES, Wine pairing was worth it as well.
