Potentially found my new favorite drink, a New York Sour! So good! People were asking us about it.

The restaurant was packed for New Year’s Eve as expected. Staff were very busy and working hard to accommodate everyone. We certainly understood that they were a bit behind on reservations and appreciated their transparency about this to set expectations. The bar and those gathering became overcrowded and somewhat interfered with tables in the bar area. We ended up being seated at a small table in the corner of the bar against a cold window on a very windy night. Not the end of the world, but not an ideal space.

Our server was so friendly, but you could tell was overworked. She had most if not all of the tables in the bar area. She was moving constantly, and her ability to check on us more often and be attentive was not possible.

The star of the show was definitely the house mashed potatoes. If you are a rosemary lover, don’t think twice! My filet had good flavor, but was not cooked evenly. About half of the steak was medium well. The other half was closer to medium, but that is being generous. Overcooked for sure. The server was incredibly apologetic and offered to provide us with a free dessert.

Three all gender bathrooms for this restaurant is not enough on a busy night. The wait was significantly more than I expected. They were very clean and luxurious!

I would return again, but would most likely consider dinner at the bar or a different table upstairs.

If you haven’t had a chance to dine at Draper Brothers Chophouse, do yourself a favor and make a reservation ASAP! It’s evident that their ownership and staff have spared no details: from a thoughtfully curated menu to attentive service and an intimate ambiance, this is one of the most flawless dining experiences I have had in a while.

The wine list is one of the most impressive I have seen – whether you’re hosting a group or winding down the day solo, there is something for everyone. I’m very particular about the steakhouses I frequent, and I will 100% be a regular customer.

If you’re in the Madison area (or even visiting), be sure to put Draper Brothers on your list – you will not be disappointed!

We showed up with no reservation and was offered bar seating. It was still just as nice and had excellent service from the bartender. We ordered the chicken and ravioli. They were both delicious! If you want something big and filling the chicken was more than enough and if you’re feeling something a little smaller and lighter the ravioli is great. Overall, a great dinner spot but just make sure to call to get a reservation or see if they have seating available.

Had an incredible experience on a random Tuesday night. The chef even checked to see if we enjoyed our meals and we definitely did. The steak tartare and olive oil lemon cake were so good we almost cried. Beef mushroom ravioli and chicken parm were Cocktails were mixed with great care – highly recommend the Italian margarita. Server was very sweet and attentive but not hovering. Just magical with the snow coming down and wonderful ambience. Thanks to the staff for a fantastic time.

Extremely disappointing. We were sat early, which was nice. The Ambiance is deceiving when you first walk in. You walk into a great looking space. Beautiful finishes but the room was extremely loud. Was not able to have a normal conversation. In addition, the lights kept flickering every 30-40 secs. Absolutely terrible experience with the lights constantly flickering from low to high.

Food was ok. Nothing to go out of your way for. Service was did not meet my expectations in any way. I was really shocked again. When serving my soup, the your woman reached over my friend across the table. Really? Quite a few service issues. Just a all around disappointing visit. I wish them the best of luck, but it will be awhile before I go back.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Reservation at 8:30. Sat after 9:30. Given it new years but what are reservation even for?
Management tried to ignore us, standing in the kitchen for an hour cause this place is small. Maybe this is the standard around these parts but unacceptable in my mind. Do better. Madison is a tough place to survive in the restaurant biz and I cant image this one star will help. Never coming back no matter how good the food is. Doesn’t matter how many bottles of wine or gift card you throw at me. This was an all around F-. Servers have been great. Im still waiting on my food and its 10:45. 11:05 I left. Heritage house is a nice pub. Go there instead. This place sorely need better management

From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed a warm welcome from everyone we encountered. The upstairs dining room is beautiful, cast in rich colors with a vintage décor, elegant chandeliers, and decorative metal ceilings with views of the State Capitol from some windows. Special thanks to our server, Fatima, who was knowledgeable about the entrees and was a joy to have at the table. We especially enjoyed the lobster bisque and the seared scallops served with lemon parmesan risotto, pancetta, shaved fennel, and agrodolce. Unfortunately, the 16-ounce strip steak lacked flavor and was tough. We were comped a dessert, which was a nice gesture, but this is a steakhouse, and we had hoped for better, hence the four-star rating.

Due to a scheduling error, my group of eight was left without a dinner reservation in central Madison WI recently. The Chop House graciously opened a space for us on their second floor despite being fully booked for the night on the main floor. Madison was wonderful in providing skilled service to us and the food was delicious! Great wine options from Oregon Pinot Noir to Bordeaux blends at good prices. Want to give props to this place for their flexibility, hospitality and food service.

I went around a year ago during the 2025 Winter Restaurant Week, but forgot to review it. The steak and soup was really tasty and with the Restaurant Week sale it was only $50 for an appetizer, main, and dessert. The ambience is cozy and overall a great steakhouse.
