Update 2/10/26: I’m a glutton for good food so I went back and tried the $10 lunch special jerk chicken with rice and peas and macaroni salad. THEBOMB.COM, I’m ready for a nap.
I followed my coworker to this Jamaican restaurant for lunch—and let me start with a disclaimer: if you plan on being productive after eating here, don’t. Just take the rest of the day off now.
I ordered the $10 fried chicken lunch special with extra gravy, rice and peas, and macaroni salad and washed it down with a pineapple ginger juice. Baby… I was FULL full. The kind of full where your laptop starts looking optional. I was overworked, overfed, and ready to slam my laptop shut and resume life Monday morning.
The food was so good and so filling that I didn’t even eat dinner that night. I had a cup of tea and went straight to bed—peacefully and without regret.
All jokes aside, the food is excellent. Authentic Caribbean cooking, fresh, flavorful, and made with love—the kind that tastes like your Caribbean mother or grandmother cooked it herself. The service was wonderful, and the portions are generous. Whether you order a regular entrée or a lunch special, you will leave satisfied.
Check them out—just don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you eat this for lunch, you are not working the rest of the day.

I have not had a bad meal here. Everything has been amazing. Oxtails are the best I have had. Jerk pork best. Curry chicken best. I don’t eat carbs or sugar so they give me extra veggies so yummy. And the staff so pleasant and professional. Jamaican beauties 🙂 keep up the good work.

I absolutely love Simmer Down Bar & Grill. The food is authentic Jamaican cuisine with incredible flavor in every dish. From the perfectly seasoned jerk chicken to the rich and comforting oxtail (my absolute favorite), everything tastes homemade and full of Caribbean soul. The atmosphere is warm, lively, and welcoming, and the staff always treat you like family. If you want real Jamaican food that reminds you of the islands, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Great food great service. You can’t go wrong with the $10 lunch special they really pack it for you so it’s definitely worth it. I opt in for the jerk chicken and my man had the fried chicken very fresh. Rice was very well cooked.

The atmosphere was chill, homey and inviting. The service was above and beyond – the people there are wonderful; very polite. Not to mention the smoky and flavorful Jerk Chicken and the sweet and spicy sauce that accompanied it. The oxtail was tender and savory; perfect when paired with the rice and peas. Overall, pretty inexpensive for great food, big portions, and good service.

My husband is Jamaican … Man been here 12 months, he has tried multiple restaurants! Hated everyone of them ! This was our first time trying simmer … My husband is in absolute awe at the food ! We ordered jerk pork , stew chicken rice & peas with pasta salad … His chief complaint has been the rice and lack of coconut milk used …. He said Simmer rice was exactly how he makes his rice full of flavor and a noticeable hint of coconut milk ! Delicious!!!!! The meat was tender and full of flavor ! Now on to the star of the show ! What in the heck do you put in that pasta salad ? That was the best pasta salad I’ve ever had in my 42 years lol ! Thank you for the portion size I don’t feel cheated but actually over compensated for the price ! Even the packaging was hefty and secure (do dripping stew sauce ) lol . I just thoroughly enjoyed my food today and seeing my husband feel a little bit closer to home 🙂

The food and the staff are both equally amazing at this place! Hands down the best Caribbean cuisine in the area. …and idk what they’re doing with that macaroni salad, but I do know God is somewhere in that kitchen helping make it! It’s pretty much an addiction at this point. And I don’t want help, just more please!

Happened upon this delightful restaurant while in the area. My friend and I decided to purchase dinner to take home. Immediately upon entry we received a very warm greeting from Staff. We ordered brown stewed snapper and escovitch snapper. We were informed that our order is cooked upon request and we would have a 30 min wait. So while we waited, we ordered a bowl of cow foot soup to eat while we wait. Hands down, this was the best cow foot soup I’ve had since relocating to Florida 8 yrs ago. The Chef personalized the soup by using pumpkin instead of beans. Delicious!!! In addition, we purchased several other meals. Namely, Curried Goat, Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, and Brown Stew Chicken. The meals came with very decent proportions sides of rice & peas, plantains and macaroni salad (normally meals would come with a side of steamed cabbage, but because we went later in the day, the cabbage had finished). However, the macaroni salad was absolutely delicious. As well as, the rest of the meals The cost of the meals are very reasonable. We will return.

Had the pleasure of having food from Simmer Down today, and let me tell you—this food is top tier. When I say real, authentic Jamaican food, I mean the seasoning and Jamaican flavor were absolutely on point. The jerk chicken, jerk pork, fried chicken, escovitch fish—man, and don’t even get me started on the oxtail—simply finger-licking delicious.
Oh, and how could I forget the rice and peas? That was on another level—simply put, off the chain. Perfectly flavored with that rich coconut taste that sets real Jamaican rice and peas apart.
The steamed vegetables and pasta salad? Wow. Everything was cooked to perfection and bursting with authentic flavor. As a food critic, I don’t say this lightly—this food was on point, start to finish.
In a nutshell, if you’re looking for real, authentic Jamaican food, look no further. Simmer Down is definitely the place to go.
Thank you, Kaydian— the food was absolutely delicious.

Maybe I went on a “bad day” but that was the most flavorless curry chicken I’ve ever had in my life. It wasn’t much chicken on the plate and some of the meat was pink, the rice and peas was more like rice and a couple of peas. And each bite I had so many bones. I was over it, I couldn’t finish it. And had a leg bone in the plate with no meat on it. This was a horrible plate, I tossed most of it. Not to mention the unpleasant customer service.
Update: This is the right restaurant, which is on 25th street next door to the bakery I visited prior to coming to your establishment.
