I went to a seafood restaurant and ordered a burger — and I’m glad I did. I visited the Fairhaven Oyster with a group, and since I don’t eat seafood, I was happy to see a hamburger on the menu.
The burger and fries were very good. The fries were slightly saltier than I prefer, but still tasty and well-prepared. The burger was cooked exactly to the requested temperature and seasoned nicely, making for a flavorful patty. The bun was toasted, the toppings were fresh, and everything came together well.
To complement the burger, I had a Sea Hag draft, a local brew that paired perfectly with my meal. It was a great match — especially for a hamburger enjoyed at a seafood restaurant.
The dining area is a bit small, but it was comfortably heated during the cold weather, making for a pleasant experience overall. It wasn’t overly crowded while our group was there, which worked out well since we had five people at a table better suited for four. We made it work, though, and the harbor view added to the atmosphere.
The only drawback is that the restaurant can be a little difficult to find. It sits on the edge of a dirt parking lot in a marina, and from the street it doesn’t immediately look like a restaurant. There’s no prominent street sign — just a small sign on the building itself. Parking was ample, but since it’s a dirt lot, potholes could be an issue in bad weather.
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for families with small children due to the limited non-seafood options and the tight quarters. However, if you’re looking for a casual spot with a great harbor view — even if you’re ordering a burger at a seafood place — it’s definitely worth a visit.
My fiancé and I love this place. The menu is very intentional, interesting, and small. The food is consistently divine… like it cannot be understated how good it is.
When we go, we spend about $100 on 24 oysters, $60 on 4 drinks, and another $80 on other foods. With tip, we expect to pay around $300.
The wait staff has always been kind, knowledgeable and attentive.
I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend the baked clams with gochujang butter. I would go to war for that dish, it is so so freaking good. I recommend ordering at least one per person.
The grilled caesar salad is also to die for. You will not regret getting that either, it is oh so delicious!
The cocktails are strong. Definitely alcohol forward for the ones we tried. They are interesting, the only bad part of the experience was the tequila cocktail they had, that was terrible. I can’t say if it was prepared poorly or if we personally just don’t love the flavor profile, but it was not drinkable by our standards.
My other criticism is that for Valentines Day, the only chocolate dessert they offered was “chocolate cookies with milk” which was disappointing (not the dish itself, but we were hoping for the chocolate soufflé they had once before).
The roasted little neck clams, a small app for sure, were perfection, they were tender and the flavoring was present but not overpowering the clam. Have never had clam toast and was curious to try. It was a large piece of very toasty, crusty bread covered with chopped up clams and garlic. Very garlic forward but absolutely not too much garlic, loved this dish also. The burrata, which I get at many restaurants, was again one of the best I have had. The cheese was not icy cold (which is my preference) and the vinegared strawberries cut the richness of the cheese perfectly. The toast it was served with was the thinness of a potato chip with a great flavor. For dessert we had the donuts, again loved. As you are eating them you expect the caramel to be sweet but since it is made with tahini it was not sweet at all and was a great counterpoint to the donut, I didn’t taste a lot of the sesame but what I had added nice texture. I cannot wait to return to this restaurant to try more items from the menu.
Cocktails were inventive and strong, and cheap by city standards at $14. Every seafood element we tried tasted light, clean and fresh – the Crab Toast was particularly delicious, with a great use of oil. Oyster selection was broad and fairly priced, came with a nice and powerful hot sauce. Scallop entree was fantastic; my sole nitpick would be that the amount of sauce base felt a tad much. Basque cheesecake with caviar was a dessert dish that I’ll remember for years to come, and seek to come back for.
Service was amazing; host was welcoming and warm, and our server felt like a friend after 5 minutes. Back patio seating looking out on the docks is a MUST if the weather allows.
