UPDATE: vomiting commenced 3.5 hours after consuming one piece of the wet sand shrimp.
RESPONSE TO OWNER’S RESPONSE: This was not an instance of us simply “not liking anything”. Fresh ingredients mean nothing when they are (a) cross contaminated without care (b) cooked improperly (c) seasoned improperly or not at all (d) served in a dirty establishment and (e) come with poor service. On top of everything I’ve mentioned, your wait staff were all sitting together at the bar eating while we were there. I had to get up multiple times to ask for drink refills, etc. I served in many restaurants when I was younger and one cardinal rule was that we never sat down in front of guests, and wouldn’t dream of sitting down and enjoying a full blown meal with our coworkers while we were supposed to be serving our paying guests. We lost $200 at your establishment yesterday while the servers sat and chatted and laughed and enjoyed (a presumably free) meal while we were left without service and without edible food. Why in the world would I want to drive the almost hour back there for a “free meal”? So I can experience the same deeply sub par service and food, only to get sick hours later? No thank you. Honestly, you couldn’t PAY ME to come back. Ever.
(I want to add I am not the type to only review a place after a negative experience, and I hate being this person, but this really did not sit right with me.)
I ordered Bao Buns off of the lunch special menu at $9. My server let me know they no longer had those and suggested another item, the Xiao Buns. I assumed they were not part of the lunch specials, but seeing as that the server suggested them, I gave them a shot. When they arrived at the table, they were not heated all the way through. The server eventually came back to check on us, we told him they were cold in the center, and he took the plate back to the kitchen. He returned shortly after with the same plate missing the dipping sauce leaving no doubt they were microwaved. This was disappointing, but they tasted okay.
What I was really annoyed about was my bill. The Xiao Buns were $21 – more than twice the price of what I tried to order! Like I said, I didn’t assume they were a special, but suggesting a substitute at that price when I was clearly there for $5 rolls was just slimy. Again, my fault for not asking beforehand, but shame on the server for pulling that.
It was an unfortunate experience, but I guess I’ll just be more careful next time when a server suggests a replacement item.
