The owners’ inspiration, flavor, attitude, and even the name Angry Owl come from decades of experiences spent on a remote West Texas ranch. As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas – and that is true of the bold tastes found on the menu at the Angry Owl. Our grilled entrees are seasoned with the same blend of spices used on the open mesquite grills on the ranch. We’ve added a unique southwest twist on many traditional food favorites.
Colorful Southwestern eatery offering mesquite-spiced grills, and potent cocktails.

My favorites unique to this restaurant…
Hatch Green Chile Potato Chowder: Absolutely awesome. It’s creamy, cheesy, comforting, and has that signature Hatch kick that makes it a local masterpiece.
Shrimp Tacos: Wow! The seasoning is spot on, and the shrimp are cooked to perfection just the right of amount of toppings and of course angry heat that’s a perfect balance of flavor. Blackened Salmon on Spicy Rice, it all comes together awesome. Calabacitas: Again…Wow! Taste just like my momma’s! Honestly, you can’t get any more “El Paso” than this. It tastes just like home. Beyond the food, the beer is always ice-cold, which is exactly what you need in West Texas. Plus, they have great specials running every single day, making it an easy choice for a casual lunch or a night out.
Bottom line: Add Angry Owl to your “must-do” list. It’s a local gem that truly understands our city’s flavor.
Staff is kind and attentive.
The Abondingas soup thrills me and calabacitas soothes. Fish tacos are so delicious! The beans, green Chile mashed potatoes, cilantro lime rice…. I could go on… flavor explosions for the taste buds!!
The soup was excellent, warm and flavorful with a hint of spice. Just right.
The bacon burger was good, big and with a lot of veggies.
The fries were crispy and well seasoned.
Our server was quick with the beverage refills and checked in on us to see if the food was to our liking.
The Owl boasts an unusual menu, with lots of fabulous Mexican food offerings such as Calabacitas and Hatch green chili potato chowder. The dishes are traditional or fusion-inspired Mexican cuisine (like the Sun City salmon on cilantro-lime rice and topped with Pico de Gallo). The Albondigas soup was SO tasty, and the Calabacitas were AMAZING! Our friends had chicken-fried steak over mashed potatoes (which was served as a generous portion and had yummy breading) and the Southwest Chicken Caesar Salad (which was IMMENSE).
Cooper was our server and was fabulous! They were very friendly and efficient; there was a little wait for our food to arrive (maybe there were less kitchen staff due to the holiday), but our orders were taken quickly and Cooper checked back frequently to ensure we were enjoying our meals. They guided those of us new to the restaurant through the menu and was patient with all my questions (especially regarding the Calabacitas).
The restaurant is in an open, roomy space with plenty of seating, yet it felt intimate enough for private conversations.
We’ll definitely be back to The Angry Owl on our next visit to El Paso!
