Went for a random lunch on a Friday. Full house, amazing atmosphere (had a great conversation with our neighbor) and delicious food. You get the real Bistrot feeling at the cafe upstairs. Wonderful vegetables (farm to table) and sauces. Meat was served a bit too cold but that was a detail given how everything was delicious.

Lunch at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA was outstanding. Founded by legendary chef and farm-to-table pioneer Alice Waters, the restaurant lives up to its reputation — simple, seasonal dishes done to perfection.

Fresh salad, expertly prepared duck, and a classic fruit tart to finish. Attentive service, incredible ingredients, and a true Berkeley classic that absolutely delivers.

Delicious food and great service. Definitely price and a special occasion kind of place. We were pleasantly surprised with the small appetizer, dessert tea, and small candies (orange peel and chocolate covered almonds) included with the prix fixe menu!

Came solo because no one wanted to commit. Just moved to Oakland recently and this is on my to do list. Seated with a primo view of the kitchen in the downstairs dining room. Although I was basically in middle of the room for all to gawk at. Produce and sauces were the stars. Make sure to reserve some bread to sop it all up.

While there is a complimentary prosecco drink, you must order the pear cider if they have it. Just do it.

Dungeness crab salad w black truffle. Really generous lump crab and claw meat. Full slice of truffle. Yes.

Halibut ravioli with leeks and manila clam. Bad news, the pasta was not cooked, still a little crunchy. Had to take off a star for that, sorry. But the fish filling was perfectly done. Its probably a challenge to have the pasta cooked but the filling not over done. Beurre blanc sauce with those fresh leeks was really something. More bread please.

Duck breast w squash puree was a satisfying dish. Squash puree was wonderfully sweet.

Savarin du rhum for dessert. The citrus was more orange than orange.

Complimentary mint tea at the end was a nice touch.

Since I was seated in the middle of the room, service was over the top excellent. Not a second went by without something happening or some need attended. Team work.

Constantly rotating menu means I have a reason to return… frequently.

The food was outstanding and the staff were exceptionally attentive. Every dish was packed with amazing flavors and the presentation was perfect. If you can, ask for a seat near the kitchen for an even more exciting experience. We will surely return soon.

Snagged a dinner reservation last minute and we were so glad we did! Kind, thoughtful and super stylish service. The whole meal was wonderful – perfect blend of simplicity and creativity. The star of the show was the passion fruit tart, the biscuit was INCREDIBLE.

First time; lunch in cafe. Gorgeous space, gorgeous food. Sat next to obnoxious mom and 3 entitled teen sons who were loud and dominating the volume in the dining room with over the top behavior. It was difficult to ignore. But that didn’t ruin the food and beauty of the space. We were celebrating the two of us turning 50 but it wasn’t acknowledged by staff despite prior notes. However, this was a bucket list experience. Tried most of menu and bought a signed cookbook and water glass. A great lunch of rustic deliciousness!

Ate upstairs in the cafe, and had a lovely experience. I love the open kitchen. I love the rustic design of the restaurant. I love the mid century style lights and stained glass. The vibe is almost cabin-like. Being able to watch as bread and pizzas went into the wood-fired oven was a treat. Service was a bit relaxed and not as I had expected. Not bad, but just mediocre. I was anticipating hearing more about the food. It’s okay – they let me take home the menu.

The food was simple yet abound with subtleties. The dishes spoke for themselves. They spoke of the land and the fields and the farms they came from. The Bronx grapes for dessert were a treat.

Unpretentious, high-quality food in a cozy atmosphere. I could really settle into this place for awhile.

The service from Cameron was excellent—attentive and professional throughout the meal. The restaurant was a bit noisy, likely due to the low ceiling and the close spacing between tables.
I ordered the pork loin with vegetables. The vegetables were very fresh and well seasoned, and the pork was cooked nicely. My wife had the rockfish, which was also very well prepared. The carrot ginger appetizer was excellent and one of the highlights of the meal.
Unfortunately, the dessert fell short of expectations. It was priced at $15 and consisted of four mandarin oranges and three dates. While I assume the ingredients were organic, there was no presentation, and it felt overpriced, especially since similar items can be purchased at an organic supermarket. Overall, the dessert was disappointing compared to the rest of the experience.

Amazing food and atmosphere, all ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal so it added a layer to the food. Interior styled like other Berkeley bungalows so a nice local touch there as well.
