We came across Texas Joe’s Slow Smoked Meats while looking for somewhere to eat nearby. The place caught our attention, and when we arrived we were welcomed even though we didn’t have a booking.
As it was a decent day, we were offered seating outside, which worked well. It was fairly quiet, with a few other tables around, and felt relaxed overall. The staff were accommodating and helped get us settled without any fuss.
This was my first time properly trying this style of barbecue, and the food came out smoothly as part of the meal. Everything worked well together, and it felt like an easy introduction to this type of cooking.
By the end, it felt like a comfortable place to sit and eat, especially outdoors, and it’s somewhere I’d consider returning to try other items on the menu.
This place is truly impressive. As soon as you step inside, it feels like you’ve left London and been transported to Texas. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is excellent. The meat was incredibly tender and full of flavour — it practically melted in your mouth.
However, the experience was let down by the service at the end. We were given the bill without having asked for it, and this happened before the drinks we had already ordered were even brought to the table. It made us feel rushed and unwelcome, as if we were being pushed to leave or discouraged from ordering anything else. This was a very unpleasant way to end an otherwise great meal.
Overall, the food and setting are great, but the service issue significantly affected our experience.
They’ve got a ton of memorabilia up to A&W root beer. The star of the show was the brisket and I also enjoyed the mac n cheese and pecan pie. Only disappointment was the bone barrow that didn’t have much marrow
What stops me from returning more often is the solo-diner-unfriendly portions of the sides, which are too big. When I mentioned to the otherwise wonderfully welcoming head server, she laughed it off and didn’t really offer me a solution that would entice me to come back more
Unfortunately, the food we ordered was quite dry and not warm when it arrived. The meat was very difficult to chew, and we struggled to finish it. I rarely leave food behind, so it was quite disappointing for us.
I’m not writing to ask for anything in return or to cause trouble — I simply wanted to express my concern. I hope this feedback can help improve the experience for future customers.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Got the brisket, beef rib & mac:
1. rib was incredibly dry so I had to waste a lot of it I couldn’t chew it at all
2. fat was still firm wasn’t rendered enough on the brisket, was a bit dry
3. Mac & cheese was undercooked and pasta was very firm
The flavours of this place were really good but the cook on everything was off, was so hyped for this place but maybe because it was the end of the day?
