My husband and I along with another couple, stopped by Golden Buffet on Sunday. Even though it was a little busy, we were greeted and seated right away, which I appreciated. The food itself was delicious with a huge variety of options to choose from, definitely something for everyone. It did leave me feeling a little sleepy afterward, so I’m guessing there’s plenty of MSG in the mix. At $22 per person, it’s not a bad deal at all, especially if you go for special occasions like big birthdays. Personally, I don’t usually eat at buffets since I’m in my “healthier era,” but this was a fun impulse choice for the day. I believe you can eat healthier if you stick to the hibachi grill option, and watch the oils. Overall, it was pretty inside and I’d come back in the future, preferably for a celebration so I feel better about over eating.
This has been my favorite place for Chinese food for years, it WAS my standard by which all others were judged. We went for dinner on a Wednesday and I was so disappointed we will NOT be coming back. Several things suggest ownership has changed hands: new logo and signage over the entrance, a new drop ceiling with a playful mix of white and custard-yellow tiles – – and this I think is crucial, because while everything is laid out similarly, and everything is where you would expect NOTHING. TASTES. GOOD.
My 3 favorite things to get here are pork egg rolls, crab rangoons, and chicken on a stick (super basic, I realize). The pork egg rolls were all breading, no cabbage, carrot, or pork to be appreciated. The crab rangoons were curdled and flavorless. The chicken on a stick was the right color and cooked well, but completely flavorless.
My unproven theory is that they changed vendors or, moved some of what was previously cooked, increased the amount of food to be vendor-supplied. I then went on to try the green beans, general Tso’s, bourbon chicken – my 2nd string, which left me wanting as well and I left feeling deprived.
The service, environment, and everything was very clean and professional. This is not a one-sided critique. It’s a restaurant that has just lost the food that made it a place I want to eat at.
Everything was good, but a few favorites we tried this visit were the seafood pizza, apple pie & fried potatoes.
Out of all the Chinese buffets in Lexington I believe this one is the winner hands down.
The selection of food is fresh and tastes great! While I was dining I had fresh crab legs, frog legs, clams and black pepper with just the right heat (spice) to them.
Crab and shrimp, fried shrimp, chicken wings and more.
My point is if you can’t get satisfied while at this Chinese buffet you should hang it up…lol (in my humble opinion) or go to P.F. Chang’s and pay for just one dish for what I paid for a great buffet with more than 20 dishes!
I was rolling Han Solo this time so the price was only $23.00 plus tip $5.00.
You just can’t beat the quality of food, the service and the atmosphere at this price!
