The service was great, the food was overall good, but the bread pudding? Best I’ve ever had, hands down. The pecan pie was also absolutely delicious. Sad we missed the carrot cake!

We are in Panama City staying at a local hotel for the first time on a work order. I wanted Fried Chicken to satisfy my hunger pains. Searched the area and found Granny Cantrell’s. This place wasn’t far from our hotel. We were so pleased to have found it because it’s a buffet. I got the Fried Chicken (it was seasoned well to taste and hot), Collard greens, and Mac & Cheese. My husband had the Turkey with Green beans, and Mac & Cheese. We both had a slice of Pecan Pie for dessert. All of it was so delicious. You will need to add your own seasoning to your food. The place was a nice setup, clean, and not crowded. The price was nice for the portion size. We decided to take our food back to our hotel room where we can crash after we eat. We will definitely order from Granny Cantrell’s again.

This place is phenomenal. The food is great and can tell its made with love. The service is awesome. The scenery is pretty cool has a train going around, and the army and veterans decor i absolutely was impressed. And would deff come back. The buffet is actually pretty cheap for 2 ppl around 35 bucks. Everyone should stop by If you love southern style food.

Wonderful place! Home cooking at it’s finest. And the nicest people you could ask to meet. Liz took very good care of this old man. I made it a point to get a tiny spoonful of everything, and a slightly bigger spoonful of some things. The turkey and dressing and gravy was some of the best I’ve ever had, the vegetables were fresh and delicious, I thought I was at my grandmother’s house, well, I guess I was at Granny’s Place. I hear they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I may have to take early retirement and just move down here!

After reading the great reviews, I took my mom out to late lunch here (around 3:30 pm) on a Monday for their buffet. It took a few minutes (10 -15) for the waitress to come to our table but once she made initial contact, her service was great. The lovely loyal patrons sitting at a nearby table saw it was our first time here and guided us in what to do while we were waiting on the waitress. The patron said service here was usually EXCELLENT, but that they must have been shorthanded that day.
We made our way to the buffet and the selections were the best of down-home southern cooking that I have ever seen. From a fresh and bountiful salad bar to homemade Mac and cheese, collard greens, mashed potatoes, beef tips/gravy, rice, rolls, chicken n’ dumplings, lima beans, black eyed peas and some of the BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had!
They also had a nice variety of sweets: chocolate cake, white cake, pecan pie, bread pudding, banana pudding (that tasted exactly like my grandma used to make) and an ice cream machine complete with cones.
Everything both my mother and I had was DELICIOUS! The ONLY critique I have is that the chicken n’ dumplings were a bit too salty, but seriously, pair them with a roll or some collard greens in the same bite and you’re golden!! ;). We both cleaned our plates and I tried a bit of the banana pudding and white cake, both were PERFECT!
The prices were also very reasonable and they also have senior discounts.
By 4 pm, the place was PACKED! Hardly a single table was left in the place. To me, this is a great sign that the food and service are STELLAR and the local community is supporting this locally owned business.
By all accounts, this restaurant is a MUST GO TO when you find yourself in Panama City, FL.
You will NOT be disappointed at the service, the atmosphere (be sure to look UP to see the running train near the ceiling), the prices or the food. Everything was EXCELLENT and I will most definitely be back to enjoy their Friday Night Seafood Buffet (which the friendly local patron shared with me was phenomenal)!

We went on a Saturday and the choice of food was excellent. The quality of the meats (I had the pork and turkey) were excellent, and the vegetables and desserts were awesome. For seniors, you cannot beat the price. See you next time!
