Our original Public House has been a vibrant fixture of the downtown Bend, Oregon scene since 1988. Not only were our very first beers brewed here – think Black Butte Porter and Jubelale – but we quickly became a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. While the beer speaks for itself through a total of 19 taps, our chefs also put the same quality and hand-crafted excellence into the cuisine. Our beer-centric menu features fresh ingredients, many sourced from local farmers, foragers and ranchers with whom the team has built strong relationships over the years. Most menu items are hand-crafted from scratch whenever possible, and several items are made with spent grain from the brewing process. Come visit us at Bend’s original brew p…

I was lucky enough to visit with family, and the Public House provided the perfect warm, lively atmosphere for our gathering. While my core group of favorites was available, I opted for a special treat: the Black Butte XXXVII Imperial Porter, a richer, more decadent cousin to the classic. It was the perfect companion to my BBP Sausage Sandwich, and paired together they were absolutely terrific, showcasing the brewery’s commitment to quality both in the glass and on the plate.
The best part, however, was seeing the joy on my family’s faces, even those less versed in craft beer. Our server made an excellent recommendation for the family members who typically stick to lighter options like Coors Light, suggesting the Helles Lager. They were genuinely surprised by how much they enjoyed its clean, refreshing profile. My father-in-law, a dedicated PBR fan, was also pleased with his selection. We even had an adventurous order at the table, the Dill Pickle Sour, which was surprisingly complex and much tastier than I could have imagined.
The dinner was a fantastic blend of delicious food, spectacular beer, and shared moments. It was truly a great experience to have with my entire family. Before leaving, I made sure to stop at the gift shop, walking out with a haul of souvenirs including wall tins, hats, growlers, and t-shirts, ensuring a little piece of Deschutes came home with me. Highly recommended for any beer lover passing through Bend!
The pretzel is a must-try—it came perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of salt and butter, and the warm cheese sauce was absolutely to die for. I also tried the fish and chips, which are prepared with breadcrumbs rather than a traditional batter. They’re on the drier side, so you have to be a fan of that style. I liked it, but next time I’ll probably try something else.
Of course, the beer selection is fantastic—plenty of great options to pair with your meal. The restaurant itself is clean, well maintained, and has a ton of TVs, making it a great spot to catch NFL or college football games.
Parking can be a little tricky since it’s mostly street parking, especially during busy hours, but we lucked out and got a spot right in front. Overall, a great visit and definitely worth coming back.
Our server came over and asked us about drinks. While in a brewery I felt the need to try one of their offerings, though I do not like beer, I tried their cider. The cider is more of a dry and tart cider than others I’ve had before. I also tried their boneyard elixir which is a CBD drink thst is more like a bubbly water with CBD in it.
We got appetizers and the Mirror Pond Artichoke Cheese Dip was incredible. 11/10 – one of the best artichoke dips i have ever had. The pretzel was cooked to perfection and the beer cheese was great.
For our mains my boyfriend got the fish and chips – to die for, I wish I would have gotten that as well. I got the Black Butte Porter Sausage Sandwich – while the sausage and the bun where incredible I think I would have liked it better without the arugula and cheese sauce. The food was great, but we were stuffed and couldn’t finish all of our dinner.
The restaurant is large and had trivia going on upstairs while we were there, the dining room we were sat in was decorated as an indoor beer garden, lots of string lights and plants. Overall great experience and would dine here again.
Absolutely loved our visit! The food and atmosphere were top-notch. We sat out on the dog-friendly patio and had a great time enjoying the summer vibe. Started with the hummus and pretzel appetizer—super tasty—and followed it up with a delicious pizza that hit the spot. I had a Cascade Kolsch Ale that was light and refreshing, perfect for a mid-summer day, and wrapped things up with their famous Fresh Squeezed IPA—definitely lives up to the hype. Our server was upbeat, friendly, and on top of everything. Great experience all around—we’ll definitely be back!
