The thin, grilled ground round hamburger that overhangs the bun with meat sauce is a Rochester classic. You can add cheese and or a hard roll. Soft serve for dessert. Old car nights in summer. Opened 1956.

Nice classic burger bar. Prices are very reasonable and the menu isn’t overly complex. Got the burger and the pulled pork sandwich and both were stellar. French fries were extra crispy. Next time I’m in the area it will be a must stop.

Hard to compare to what I remember 30 years ago, but the general theme and menu is still the same. The food is good…it isn’t high brow chef kiss, so just accept that you stopped at a burger joint on the beach. If you’re not from upstate, you probably don’t know what meat sauce is and maybe never had a white hot. So try that and enjoy. Still very good!

These negative reviews need to simmer down a little, because my lunch was fabulous. And please correct me if I’m mistaken, but aren’t the burgers supposed to be pressed in this fashion? Hard roll also tasted great to me! Onion rings were phenomenal…. So crunchy good. Pickles were always maybe the hot sauce changed a little bit I think I remember in the past it was slightly more greasy, but overall still tasted delicious.
Running a business is HARD WORK. People should be grateful that this wonderful business has been around for so long and still is going strong. I remember coming here when I was just a little girl, and 30 years later, it still has the charm and essence that Schiller is known to be. Maybe some things change, but that’s just the nature of the business and boy is it hard to maintain and run a restaurant in this day and age.
Don’t let any of these negative refuse deter you. If you have feedback consult management directly. Support local business and support this long, lasting local gem of the Rochester area.

This was a unique experience. There was no real organization to the madness. It was a confusing ordering system but we placed our order. We wanted to try this place as it seems like a stable of Rochester. We ordered fries and a chilli cheese dog. I also ordered a small cup of the meat sauce they put on top of the garbage plate as I wanted to try it. The chilli cheese dog was very moist and salty. It was not our favourite. The fries were standard frozen and deep fried fries. The meat sauce was very runny and very underwhelming. My mom and I didn’t feel good after eating. Would not go back.

My friend has been posting pictures of the Schaller’s “garbage plate” and so It was on my itinerary during my visit to try one of these monstrosities.
Served in a to go box, my meal was as follows: the base is crinkle cut fries and macaroni salad, topped with a cheeseburger patty, then they add “hot sauce” which is a spicy meat chili and then onions, and mustard on top. It is for sure a heartburn city and it was perhaps two pounds of food. I did some damage here, not just to the food but probably to my diet. There was so much here that I skipped breakfast.
But it’s an experience and should not be missed.

Fantastic! Delicious! This restaurant is such a tradition in Rochester. I am so glad it has withstood the test of time. Keep everything the same. Don’t change. You’re perfect the way you are.

I hate to write a bad review because we have come to Schaller’s for over 20 years, but I have to let management know about today’s two garbage plates. A full inch of liquid at the bottom of our plates and undercooked fries.
MANAGEMENT: please oversee the food you are putting out. We have many places to choose from and can’t say we’ll be back after this.
It’s not my nature to ask for a refund ($32 with two cokes); I’d rather this be a lesson so that quality can hopefully be re-established.
Disappointing.
