We experienced this on Halloween, and managed to get in line right as they opened. This turned out to be a great move because later it was hours to wait all over town. The service here was wonderful. The guy who took our order was a real help in navigating our first lobster rolls. We ended up getting one of each (traditional and Connecticut styles) in my mind, I thought I would love the hot one better, but I was surprised at how fantastic the traditional cold was. So much flavor! I will say, I saw them for between 25 and 35 a couple times through the day elsewhere and prices here were around 42 I think. But I was willing to pay that for such good service and amazing food.

Has indoor and outdoor seating. In the mix of everything.
The cheese curds came out hot and good.
The Mac and cheese came back out with barely warm noodles. And the crackers and top usually add a crisp to it. But they were just cold crushed up crackers. I didn’t even finish half of it.
Lobster roll was good but the bun was soggy when it came out.

Wait in the line. It’s worth it. My teenager, husband, and myself all loved our food, the atmosphere, and the wait staff. It was the perfect blend of coastal Massachusetts food + downtown Salem. Everything you want it to be.

I was excited to finally try The Lobster Shanty after hearing so much about it, but the experience just didn’t deliver. We were seated quickly, and I really enjoyed the local pumpkin beer — that was a highlight. Unfortunately, service was quite slow despite the restaurant not being busy, and the food was disappointing. The $40 Connecticut lobster roll was completely overwhelmed by oil, which hid the natural flavor of the lobster. The chicken wings were also dry and lacked any real sauce. For a lunch that came to over $100, I left feeling let down rather than satisfied. Hopefully this was just an off day, because the setting and menu have real potential.

We had a blessing eating at the Lobster Shanty, in the end of December so not crowded at all.
Reasonable price and absolutely perfect lobster rolls!
Really recommend the tater tots with the roll.

Came during Halloween weekend so the long wait was expected. Had the lobster roll, Connecticut style, and while it was good, it came in at a hefty $42. Mac and cheese was more reasonable, and the steak we added to it was cooked medium almost perfectly.

The Lobster Shanty has the Best Lobster Roll in New England. I have had the Traditional and Connecticut Roll in all of New England, they have been around for decades and it proof is in the well seasoned Clam Chowder. Everything is hand made, so be patient, the wait was worth it…
