We had the crab bites for an appetizer-they were fair. Dipping sauce was good. For dinner I had a house salad, which was tasty, and shrimp tempura roll and spicy crab roll. The rolls were good, but needed more sauce/flavor. My husband had the shrimp pasta which had excellent flavor. The shrimp came on a skewer with tails on. I typically do not like pasta with tailed shrimp, but at least they hadn’t gotten messy in the sauce. He also had a crab cake side. The shrimp pasta was the only “5 ⭐️” food item we had.

We went on a Saturday, mid afternoon. I ordered the Crab Bites and the soup of the day, which was Seafood Chowder. My daughter ordered the Shrimp and Grits. The Shrimp and Grits serving was huge, which my daughter said tasted very good. The crab bites were also good. In my attached photos you will see my serving of seafood chowder, for $9.99. I would call it more of a sample size, not even a cup size. It had a half of a baby potato, one shrimp, and a couple pieces of some kind of fish. It was very good, but certainly was not worth $9.99. The “bowl” was about an inch high, and 4 to 5 inches wide, as you can see by the quarter that I placed in the photos

Based on popular request throughout Ocean Isle, we dined in on the rooftop as there was nearly a two hour wait. First and foremost, the food runners and bussers were as hardworking as they were helpful and friendly.
The Seafood Salad was great along with the Tuna Tower. The seaweed on top could have been less wet and oily, though, remained tasty. The coleslaw was really tasty too.
Unfortunately, our Calamari came out dry, overcooked and cold. Our grilled crab cake sandwich, also known as a staple on their menu, was as disappointing as it was salty and overly breaded; paired along with the soggiest and chewiest asparagus I have ever had. Neither of these dishes were eaten after two bites. Upon walking up to the bartender and explaining this, offering to bring the food back, we were told we waited too long to do anything about the situation and were fully charged because “there was nothing they could do about it”. The dishes remained full.

Situated right on the Intracoastal, the views at Ocean Isle Fish Company are nothing short of fantastic! The main dining room was full when we arrived, so we headed upstairs to the rooftop tiki bar, which is always fun!
We grabbed a couple of beers at the bar (it’s all counter service upstairs) and were told they weren’t taking any new food orders at the time. A little disappointing, but we figured we’d enjoy the view and make other dinner plans. However, while sitting there, we saw multiple people go up and order food—including a large group with several kids who had arrived after us. We checked again, and sure enough, food orders were back on. It felt frustrating and inconsistent.
Since it was close to our rental and we were hungry after a long drive, we stayed. Luckily, food came out in about 30 minutes. I ordered the Shipwreck Mahi. It was jerk-seasoned, though the flavor was pretty mild. The mango salsa on top was fresh and tasty, and they served it with a huge portion of broccoli. My partner had the Fried Softshell Crab Sandwich and said he liked it, though he didn’t rave about it.
We had heard great things about the Lobster and Shrimp Nachos and hoped to return to try them, but didn’t have time during this trip.
The restaurant has a lot going for it—plenty of parking, a small store, rooftop tiki bar, waterfront views, excursions for purchase, and a back patio for relaxing. That said, I’m docking a star for the confusing service experience and another for food that was just average overall. Still worth visiting for the location and vibe (and probably those nachos lol)!

What a terrific location for a lunch out with friends! Reset on the rooftop and enjoyed the beautiful coastal waterway views and the breeze. And… The food was excellent. We got the fresh catch, which was grouper caught from one of their boats. We had it prepared as recommended as a BLT and in tacos. We also enjoyed the calamari which included the tentacles, my favorite.

We drove almost an hour each way to visit the Ocean Isle Fish Co. I can only describe the experience as a maritime disaster. We ordered the lobster and shrimp nachos for a starter and while there were tons of shrimp, no lobster could be detected. Next, we ordered a variety of sushi rolls for our main dishes. Please don’t bother ordering the off the sushi menu. The rice was gelatinous and reminiscent of tapioca pudding. There was insufficent communication when the quality of the food was brought to the attention of staff. No manager ever approached us to discuss the issues. We eventually left without any idea whether my food was being replaced or refunded. A 3 hour tour I wouldn’t recommend.
