Reviews
Kabarna’s Grill and Galleria had a high bar to meet for me, as my only prior experience with African cuisine was in New Orleans, which remains one of the best dining experiences of my life. Aesthetically, Kabarna’s is charming, with African artifacts displayed throughout the restaurant that create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The menu is extensive, which made choosing a dish difficult. I asked our waitress for guidance, but she was very soft-spoken and seemed either unfamiliar with the menu or there may have been a communication gap between us. Unfortunately, this made it challenging to make an informed decision. We were told that all food is made to order and that the wait time could be up to 45 minutes; our food arrived in about 30 minutes.
I ordered the turkey wing with potato fries and coconut rice. My husband ordered the lamb chops with sautéed red and green peppers and coconut rice, and he thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. The turkey wing, which was served chopped into pieces, was extremely tough and difficult to chew, making it essentially inedible. I ended up eating only the coconut rice and some of my husband’s sautéed peppers. The potato fries were dry and lacked flavor.
While the ambiance and menu variety show promise, the food quality and service did not meet expectations, especially given the anticipation and the comparison to past experiences with African cuisine.
The appetizers were great for group that came with me. They also loved their entrees. This place really exceeded all my expectations! Our server was a jewel. She would not stop until we were all satisfied. Definitely a 10/10 recommendation.
He quickly returned and said there was no more mushroom soup. I was disappointed but it was ok and I decided to not have any soup and just order the jollof supreme.
The waiter then went back to the kitchen and came back to our table to let me know they “found” the soup….what does that even mean. (Means they found a brick of frozen soup in the back) So I continued to decline. He then pointed to fried calamari instead of the soup as another option. Strange when calamari and soup are not the same. I declined.
Once the meal arrived it looked very appetizing. The rice was ok. But the chicken and beef were extremely tough. Completely inedible. I left the restaurant hungry because the rice only had 3 shrimp. The coleslaw was pretty good. The plantain was dry but ok. Overall I will not be back. I’m gonna blame it on the random Monday dinner but they clearly just reheated some old chicken and beef and threw it on my plate. My fork and knife couldn’t even cut the meat. Also it was very high for some old meat and 3 shrimp. That plate cost 41 dollars…..ridiculous
I will also want to commend Kabarna’s customer service team, so dedicated to creating an enjoyable dining experience, and even during busy hours, the staff maintains professionalism and courtesy. Their continuous improvement efforts truly enhance the warm, people-centered culture that defines the restaurant. Theirs something deep and peaceful about their environment and ambience, its one of its strongest highlights — are you looking for a perfect mix of soft lighting, elegant décor, and Afrocentric charm with a seating arrangement that provides both comfort and aesthetic that appeals to you, families, couples, friends, and groups or a memorable evening out? KABARNA is the best place to be.
