Dyer’s – Amarillo, TX | Review & What to Eat – Roadfood

Dyer’s is a polite barbecue just off I-40. When I walked in Sunday about noon, it seemed that every single person in the room was dressed in church clothes.

This was our third time visiting Dyer’s. It has a nice atmosphere; very comfortable. All three times we visited, we had great service, and the food was delicious!! We’ve ordered the prime rib, burgers, beef chunks, and brisket. We also love the sides (potato salad, onion rings, fries, beans, and Texas toast with apricot jam)! We were full, but had to try the apple cobbler with ice cream. So glad we did!! It tasted home made!

Thank you for being a place we’ll definitely recommend, and be back to visit!

Stopped here for a BBQ meal on a road trip. I could tell just by walking in that this place was going to be great! The aroma of smoked meats was just enchanting.

The portions were generous. The service was spot on and attentive. The BBQ was sooo good. My wife had the ribs. Falling off the bone, flavorful, and tender. I had the pulled pork and the brisket. It just melted in my mouth.

Dyer’s serves their sauce on the side. It was just the right combo of sweet and bite. Not too thick. Excellent.

While the main course was awesome, the sides were excellent. The potato salad had great flavor and tang. The beans were not sweet but just the right flavor to complement the meats. The cole slaw was ok. The apricot sauce was tremendous. It tasted like it was homemade.

There were a couple of glitches. Red wine just should not be chilled. The onion rings were a touch cool.

But don’t let that dissuade you. This place is awesome!

Unreal experience. As a Canadian I asked my hotel reception for a BBQ recommendation and this was it. Food was fantastic service was great and the portions were massive! Everything is bigger in Texas. And thr best onion rings of my life!

Asked the front desk at my hotel where I could get the best ribeye in town. He recommended Dyer’s BBQ.
I had the dinner salad first (because my wife made me promise). Then came the ribeye and baked Potato. WOW!! Does not do this steak justice.. I’ve had food steaks in my travels through Texas, but this one was head and shoulders above the rest. I even ate some of the fat and gristle, it was that good.
My waitress, Destiny said the yellow stuff was an Apricot preserve they make. I normally don’t care for Apricots, but this was delicious on the Texas roast that came with the meal.
If you come through Amarillo, do your taste buds a favor…go eat eat at Dyer’s. My only regret is that I ordered the 10 ounce instead of the 12.
Destiny even gave me a sweet tea to go.
Carrots on salads for down better when soaked in dressing (just my opinion).
Ordered the steak medium, and the cook did it perfectly.
Wolfed everything in about 10 minutes, but that’s how Marines eat. If the food is good, you might get bitten trying to take a plate away. Destiny avoided injury by not touching my plates before asking.

Placed a to-go order at the bar. They were extremely busy so it took an hour to receive my food. When I got home the Monterey Chicken Sandwich was not a sandwich. It was the piece of chicken with a couple of bacon strips with a few fries sprinkled on top. When I called to complain, Savanah asked if I wanted to come back to the restaurant and pick up the missing buns. Needless to say, I found that insulting. I figured they would at least offer a gift card for the mistake and inconvenience. I had buns at home so that was never the issue. Unfortunately, Savanah did not see my point of view. So she lost my business over a couple of buns. Sad.

Great spot for down home BBQ! Generous portions, ribs were fantastic as was the brisket. I particularly liked the Polish sausage, and the waiter was kind enough to let us know how to order to get the best value that includes all our choices. Slaw and rings were perfect! Lively atmosphere and good drinks!

Awesome…2nd time in five years.
I live in OKC, therefore am limited to my visits here at Dyers, but was not disappointed tonight. It was everything I remembered and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We had 11 or 12 family with us and all were pleased with their selections and the portions were more than ample.

I got the rib plate 3 ribs and good size side portions the onion rings are big and very good. The ribs were ok nothing to brag about. I didn’t taste that smoked flavor ribs usually have. My plate was cold maybe that’s why my ribs were kinda cold. Will I go back, probably not.

DJ and Richard took care of us for our annual meeting, and they were the best of the best. Treated us like family and would have given us the shirts off of their backs if we asked for them. Great representation of how customer service should be.

I don’t know what you all don’t understand about EXTRA tomatoes & cucumbers.

We gave it another shot & y’all aren’t even trying at this point. The sandwiches are just thrown in the boxes… the meat isn’t even on the bun! Nothing extra I asked for was included onmy salad (No Crackers). Hubs pound of beef was not a fulll pound, including the container.

The hostesses at the front looked like they thought I had asked them to murder someone when I requested part of it be bagged separately.

I would like for you to care…. just a little bit.
