We arrived after the lunch rush around 1:15 PM and were seated immediately. Jennifer was our server and she was fantastic—friendly, attentive, and welcoming.
I ordered the fried catfish, which came out piping hot with a crispy, well-seasoned crust. I chose mashed potatoes and coleslaw as sides. The mashed potatoes were clearly homemade and very good, but the coleslaw wasn’t for me—the flavor had a bit of an off twang. The hush puppies on the plate were a nice bonus.
My wife went with the chicken fried chicken at Jennifer’s recommendation, and it was an excellent choice. She enjoyed the mashed potatoes but wasn’t a fan of the green beans; next time we’ll pick a different side.
Even though we were full, I couldn’t pass up the homemade coconut cream pie. It was good enough that we ended up taking the rest to go. While it’s not the best coconut cream pie I’ve had, it’s definitely a solid dessert option.
Overall, a great diner experience with generous portions, friendly service, and just a couple of minor side dish misses. We’ll definitely be back.
Good diners are hard to find these days, but Sherry’s Diner? Worth every bit of the hype. This is the kind of spot that reminds you why diners exist in the first place.
I ordered the chicken strips and they were next-level good. Huge portion, hand-breaded, perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Not frozen, not skimpy — the real thing.
My husband got the burger and immediately said it’s one of the best burgers around. Fresh hamburger meat, toasted bun, cooked just right… simple and done perfectly. He also ordered the onion rings and wow — hand-breaded, thick onion slices, and a portion big enough to make you consider canceling dinner plans later.
Our waitress was on it — friendly, attentive, and hustling even though the place was busy. We didn’t wait long for anything and never felt rushed out the door.
This is the kind of diner you hope to stumble across — big portions, legit homemade food, and service that makes you feel welcome. We WILL be back… probably way sooner than we should
You know when the parking lot is busy that the locals know of the place, and frequent it. On a random Thursday the place was hopping. Sherri, ‘the air traffic controller’/owner, is bright eyed, friendly, and exudes hospitality; and it is genuine, not forced or faked.
It’s okay to have a diner theme, but the food needs to be first rate to go with it, and it is. Our table of four had a couple chicken fried chickens, a patty melt, and a Reuben sandwich special with various sides. Our order was processed quickly, the food was hot and everyone including myself found it delicious. Whoever is slinging that hash in the back is doing a heckuva job at it. Well done to the cook(s).
The one reason I couldn’t give five stars to the server was because her perfume was excessive. Her service was excellent though. (Heavily scented person(s) can spur headaches in some of us.) Let them know to please bring it down a notch, Sherri.
So, overall this is a place we’d gladly visit again, and will, we all decided unanimously. I’m so very glad to see such a great business, with an equally great owner, thriving and holding the franchises at bay. This is how we preserve our areas and neighborhoods with texture and flavor. Bravo Sherri.
PS – the jukebox selections are free!
We started out with the Onion Rings as an appetizer. They are HUGE , homemade and come with Ranch. They were so good and thick with 2 slices of onion in each ring. Definitely get these. My son got the Breaded Chicken Sandwich and it was also HUGE. I tried it and it was so good. I would come back here for one of those. It of course came with Fries or you can choose a different side like Potato Salad and such. I wanted breakfast so I got the Chicken Fried Steak , again HUGE , it took up a plate by itself. It was very good and I liked the Gravy. Some places the gravy taste of too much flour , but this had good seasoning and flavor.
I also had Scrambled Eggs , Home Fries , and a Biscuit and Gravy. You can get toast if you prefer. The amount of scrambled eggs was perfect , some places don’t give you enough. The home fries had a good taste and had green peppers of some kind on top which I liked. The biscuit was homemade and big , but the flavor was just okay. The gravy that came with it tasted different to me than the gravy for the chicken fried steak , more plain , but that may be because it was on a biscuit and not the chicken fried steak. I don’t know , but it just seemed to taste different , probably just me.
Our server was nice and checked on us several times and kept our drinks full. I hate it when I’m at a sitdown restaurant and have to try to get the servers attention to get our beverages refilled. The place was busy , but she gave great service and attention. The decor is so cool with all the 50’s stuff on the walls , the Coca-Cola machines , old Jukebox , old advertisement signs even in the bathroom which was very clean. We didn’t get any dessert since we were both full , but did get a big cinnamon roll for my daughter in law who was at work. They had some big pies on display that looked very good. They also sell t-shirts of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend you coming to eat here because you will come back.
