The easiest 5 stars to give because this was the best pizza I’ve ever had! The Bianca pizza, the house salad, the bacon candy- get them all if you can because I can’t even type this review without my mouth watering because they were so, so good. The pizza crust was perfectly cooked, which is an impressive feat as sometimes brick oven pizza can get too toasty very quickly, and the toppings for the Bianca pizza were generous but also not in a way that weighed the pizza down or overpowered the crust’s quality. The house salad is an excellent combination of flavors and well worth getting. The bacon candy is cooked to a good chewiness without sliminess in the more fatty sections with the lightest sugary coating that compliments it so well.

The service was great, especially with how packed the restaurant was, and our server chatted about the show we were seeing that evening. Although there were people waiting for tables, we didn’t feel rushed by the staff at all (though we tried to be speedy for the sake of other guests).

A few logistical notes:
They do not accept reservations, so arrive early, especially on nights when there are shows scheduled.
They charge a 3% convenience fee for cards, so plan on bringing some cash if you want to save.

This is a terrific option for the dinner part of dinner and a show, or just a quality meal for the sake of eating out. I would highly recommend!

A great place to try! This was my Husband and I’s second visit to Proper and we brought our family who had never been there before. The espresso martinis (add baileys if you like a creamer espresso martini) are some of the best I’ve ever had! The fried brussel sprouts are amazing and you really can’t go wrong with any pizza you order. The dough is delicious and they always cook it to perfection! A must stop if you’re in the area!

The two best things I ate in Pittsburgh both came from The Proper. It’s definitely top of my list for every trip back to the city I take now. Why?

Because that brisket mac and cheese is just too creamy, too delectable, too hearty to not try and eat all yourself (even though it can feed two). Because the wood fired pizza is delish, goes from custom order to your plate surprisingly fast, and has a wicked cheese pull. Because two nights at the bar saw friendly, humorous interaction with three different servers and I never once felt rushed or unwelcome taking my time to savour the pours they have on tap.

This place gets packed early…and it was slammed in the middle of the week. The Proper knows what they’re doing, and if you do too, you’ll give this spot a try.

We came here before a show at the Cultural Trust and it was a wonderful experience. Plan on coming early because they do not take reservations. Our server Bridgett was awesome! The menu is neopolitian and proper is knows for their pizzas. We had the Margherita pizza with pepperoni and salads as an appetizer. We will be back because the food was so good.

cody (give him a raise lol) was so fantastic. so friendly, quick, accommodating. the pizza was CRAZY good. i loved it so much. so crispy, the sauce was perfect. the half caesar was massive and delicious, and then the shirley temple was perfectly crispy and sweet. my lemon cake dessert was to DIE for. glad i walked to my hotel after lol. also points for having hockey on instead of like. football or something. would come back!!!!!

Stopped in for an early dinner, wanted to beat the Friday crowd! The pizza was delicious!! I highly recommend the Bianca, best white pizza I’ve ever had! The crust was light and crispy, topped with a generous amount of cheese! The pesto pasta was also very good! I do not recommend the Caesar Salad at all, it was very plain, dressing was tasteless. Sad to say, because I love a good Caesar with my pizza! Jada was our server, she was so pleasant and attentive! We absolutely loved her!! The overall atmosphere was what you expect and want downtown! 4.5 ⭐️

Was on the hunt for pizza that we haven’t had yet and we were near the city. We saw this place with great reviews and a lot of them. We ordered the carnivore and the 2nd pepperoni. The pepperoni was decent and my son likes it, but the carnivore – I can’t believe this cost $25. Little toppings and doesn’t matter because nothing can stay on it.

As someone who grew up in a family pizza shop, I can say with certainly that the person who rolled this dough out has no idea how to do it properly.

So disappointing.

Always a pleasure to eat, here! Every time I visit my daughter at U Pitt we must go to Proper. The pizzas are positively divine always cooked to order with fresh ingredients…can’t beat the wood fire brick oven experience. The pasta funghi was exquisite (add roasted garlic, bacon, and a twist of lemon) as was the Lemon cream cake for dessert. My only wish was for a glass of ice cold milk to enjoy with the cake…
The waitstaff is gregarious and very helpful. Ask for the hot honey for your pizza…you won’t regret it.
Terrific dining experience…

The food was incredible! I ordered the Funghi, my mom the lemon salmon, and my sister the Bianca pizza. We also ordered the wrapped shrimp appetizer. Everything was delicious. The place is a little small and difficult to move around, but the atmosphere is great. The place was packed, but we were seated and served quickly (we were told it would be a 45 minute wait; it was 20). We arrived around 5:30 and easily made a 7:30 show at the Benedum.

Excelent spot with excellent food served by fantastic people.
I wanted somewhere nice but that wasn’t going to cost a bazillion dollars for dinner. I wanted something a little lighter and I wanted vegetables. This fit the bill well.
They Had a spectacular house salad with goat cheese, pears, and candied walnuts. The dressing is very light and tastes great.
The pesto pizza is amazing. Just the right saltiness mixed with sweet. The calamari you can tell was crafted correctly, not frozen and tastes like perfection.
I’ll be back
