“Hamburgers made with Love” is not just a slogan at Big Jim’s Drive-In located in The Dalles, Oregon, it’s our mission. Dedication and consistency is what we value and want to serve our customers the best food possible in a relaxed, clean atmosphere. WE’RE GOOD FOOD, NOT FAST FOOD. We never cook our burgers ahead of time. We make our own dressing for the burgers, tartar sauce, fry sauce and our own recipe for chili. We still make those old-fashioned milk shakes, banana splits and sundaes that you love. Our homemade waffle cones we make each morning are a big hit with one of our 16 flavors of hard ice cream in them. Enjoy our dining room, outside patio or drive thru to indulge in some of our great food or deserts.

Great Pit Stop! Great hearty food after a day fishing the pool! Fresh berry milkshakes, juicy burgers and good seafood! Jim’s has been in business since 1966 and it’s no wonder why. When driving through the Dalles, this is a must stop. We were towing a trailer and found parking right out front. Took the dog out to stretch his legs on the grass! Thank you Jim! I’ll be bringing my crew in the next time we pass through!

The cashier knew how to my the burger of my design at a cheaper cost! The fries are fantastic, crispy golden edges, unlike most big name fast food. The burger (double deluxe with bacon) was a large burger like they used to be, actually filling. Freaking fantabulous!! The shake (dark chocolate) tasted like a creamy doves dark chocolate bar. Another freaking fantabulous item!! Will definitely be coming back.

I really liked the old-time diner vibes of this place! Sometimes you just need a good greasy cheeseburger and fries, and Big Jim’s did not disappoint. I had the deluxe cheeseburger combo. The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were hot and crispy. The staff were also very friendly. We came in around 8:30 and by the looks of things, they must have just gone through a busy dinner rush. It wasn’t long after we sat down however that an employee started wiping tables down and cleaning up. We come through The Dalles a lot, and we’ll be sure to come back, especially to try the ice cream next time!

I have been hearing about Big Jim’s for years and finally got the opportunity to try it. I want to get the normal burger as it was made and was under impressed. I didn’t realize you needed to order onions or pickles. So basically I got a pretty plain burger without a lot of taste. And if you eat outside, you get the wonderful smell of the mechanic next-door. But the fries are delicious and they have a great number of shakes and ice cream to try.

Was playing thru and thought I try it out. Nice burger joint. Staff were very friendly. I got a banana milk shake that had the perfect amount of banana taste. I also got the Jim’s Burger with fries. Was a bit sloppy but good and fries were crispy.

My fiance got the Hawaiian burger, so amazing 5/5☆.
My daughter got the children chicken strips and my son got the childs cheeseburger. $48 for huge portions we could not even finish.

Food is absolutely AMAZING! The people there are so friendly and happy! I want to give Jill a shout out, she took her time to scoop the bubble gum ice cream without the bubble gum because my daughter (she’s 3) wanted that ice cream but didn’t want the pieces. Its service like hers that makes me happy and makes people want to come back!

Friendly staff with a lot of patience. Burgers were really good! Old drive in diner feel with excellent modern portions at lower than expected prices. Loved the fries, and the double cheeseburger but it was so juicy and delicious it’s hard to eat without making a mess. That’s a good thing. Small parking lot but has a drive thru. Large clean restrooms and a decent soda selection. Only thing I wasn’t thrilled about were the onion rings. They weren’t bad, just seemed like the kind of place that would have over the top rings. Overall 10/10 and I’d love to go back again.

We spotted Big Jim’s Drive-In from a sign while we were driving home and decided to swing through the drive-thru — and I’m so glad we did!
The hamburgers were really good, fresh, and hit the spot. But the real star for me? The fries. They had this perfectly seasoned coating and an amazing crunchy texture that made them seriously delicious. You can tell they take a little extra care with them.
Such a great unexpected find. We’ll definitely be stopping again!
