Jimmy Buff’s of 14th Ave. & 9th St. in Newark, NJ is where the hotdog with an Italian twist was first concocted by the founder James Bluff Racioppi in 1932. Grandpa got his nickname from his style at the card table. Translation from Italian to English came up with the nickname BUFF. In the 20s and 30s everyone had a nickname and hence James Racioppi became known as Jimmy Buff. The sandwich was first served as a treat by the Racioppi’s for close friends and relatives. It went over so big with them it became the center of their menu and ultimately a customer favorite. The fresh onions, peppers, and potatoes combines with a hot dog is what allows the speciality its claim to originality.

The other day I got, Jimmy Buff’s West Orange, for lunch. I ordered their Double Combo. It comes with a Hotdog & a Sausage, topped with potatoes (home fries), onions, peppers, condiments, stuffed into a roll. I was absolutely taken aback by the sheer size of the roll. You can comfortably hold it with two hands. I am not a ketchup lover, but I have zero complaints about it being in the sandwich! This meal was absolutely phenomenal. I went there on a Tuesday and had no idea they have specials. If you go on a Tuesday, you get two for the price of one! I was expecting to pay close to $15, but to pay half of that was mind blowing. The food is excellent, and the staff was very attentive. I would absolutely recommend, Jimmy Buff’s West Orange, to anyone in the West Orange area looking for some classic, Italian style, comfort food!

Its the traditional look small dine in for a few seconds if you like. You stand and wait for your order. But the food is still good and the original owner son has the location running now. I went into this great establishment for an Italian hotdog and realized after the order was completed it had been cooked with PORK and I don’t do PORK for religious reasons. I informed the owner and employee of my situation and right away they both redone my order in the back on another grill with no problem or attitude. I appreciate you guys and will inform you the next time I visit your location you guys are the real deal thank you so much, also if your reading this you have to try this place out you won’t be disappointed.

Had a double dog with everything and it didn’t disappoint. Brought back many memories.
