I was told this is the BEST South indian food in town, so I decided to come for a late dinner. Little did I know, so many families and couples were eating late too! I ordered the vegetable thali and wow! So many dishes with rice, papadum, and some kind of fried flat bread. Everything from the simple pickles, chole Masala, to even a spicy veggie gravy, was fantastic. One of the servers was walking around and gave out a complimentary kheer. I felt so satisfied without feeling bloated. Only vegetarian/vegan food can do that for me. After my meal, I decided to order a dine-in masala chai that came hot and fresh blended with a packet of brown sugar. Simple but an refreshing.

I will definitely be coming here again to order the dosa and idli. I saw so many families ordering dosas that were bigger than my head and I bet they’re also good.

Overall good place for South Indian food. Best part is it open in morning. Set Dosa is too thin and aloo in masala dosa is okay. Filter coffee is best

I had a wonderful experience at San Idli. The lunch menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a perfect balance of variety, flavor, and authenticity. Every dish tasted fresh and comforting, just like a traditional home-style meal.

A special mention goes to their Sambar Idli absolutely outstanding. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and perfectly steamed, soaking up the rich, aromatic sambar beautifully. The sambar itself was full of flavor, well-seasoned, and had that authentic taste that truly stands out.

The quality, consistency, and attention to detail make this place a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good South Indian food. Highly recommended easily a 5-star experience!

Best South Indian Vegetarian food. I tried thank and it was great. My friends tried other dishes and everything tasted authentic. The filter coffee smelled amazing and tasted great, the smell reminded me of the Indian railways chai that has a distinct flavor. This place brought back a lot of memories. They have my best recommendation!

I was really looking forward to visiting San Idli during my trip to San Diego, as I’d heard it was a great spot for South Indian food. Unfortunately, my experience was pretty disappointing.
When I arrived, it was clear they were busy preparing for a large catering service. This meant the regular menu was severely limited to just two items. While the staff was trying to be accommodating, the lack of options was a real letdown.
The food itself was just average, and with such a restricted menu, it wasn’t the experience I had hoped for. I’d recommend calling ahead to ensure their full menu is available before you go.

This is the place If you are looking for authentic South Indian food. Everything is super fresh and the prices are great. The coconut chutney is spot-on and the sambar tastes just like the tiffin centers back in India.

The service is great. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. Do not miss their thali, for under $20, you get a generous spread of dishes that lets you taste a little bit of everything. It’s hearty, satisfying, and a good value.

Definitely coming back again when we travel to San Diego.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Dosa I’ve Had—Even Over the Bay Area’s Finest!
I am giving San Idli a full five stars based solely on the quality of their dosa, which is truly phenomenal.
As a serious dosa enthusiast coming from the Bay Area—a place known for having some of the most incredible South Indian restaurants in the country—I have high standards. I can confidently say that the dosa here at San Idli might be the absolute best I’ve ever tasted.
It hits all the right notes: the batter is perfectly fermented, giving it that wonderful light tang, and the cook is impeccable. It comes out thin, golden, and shatteringly crispy, holding its texture throughout the meal. The chutneys and sambar were fresh and flavorful, perfectly complementing the main dish.
If you are a dosa purist, you simply must come here. This place is a gem, and it deserves all the recognition for serving up world-class, authentic South Indian cuisine. A must-try!

Went here for dinner last week after hearing a few good things, and overall it was a pretty solid experience. The place had a relaxed vibe and didn’t feel rushed, which I liked. We ordered a mix of curries and naan, and most of the flavors were on point, especially the butter chicken. Spice level was just right, not over the top. Service was friendly, though a little slow when it got busy, but nothing too annoying. Portions were decent for the price.
