We always have our runners brunch here after the San Antonio Marathon and they are so accommodating!

Tell me why this has consistently been 1 of the better restaurants in southtown. Can I just say that ever since I’ve been dining here , they warm their salsa for the Chips and Salsa. So it’s like you’re getting ranchero sauce with the chips. A+ They’ve been doing it for years and they didn’t change it They have an extensive menu with a ton of combination plates. Their breakfast is really good. I went for lunch and had the bean and cheese chalupas compuestas. If you’re a fan of cheddar cheese, you’ll love this place. I think that’s the only cheese they use. The chalupas were really good. Plus they came with guac and sour cream. They’re trying also with a more authentic tortillas. Frozen house Margarita was so so. I mean it’s worth it for the price, gets the job done. Chips and salsa = 10/10 Chalupas = 9/10. My friend’s enchilada plate = 10/10. Frozen Margarita 8/10. You should Def check this place out.

The food is good — we really like the barbacoa special (1 lb with two sodas for $20). It can be a little greasy, but overall it’s solid. The music is good, there’s a full bar, and there’s lots of great art on the walls. They definitely earn one star for ambience and two stars for the food.
The real issue is the service, which somehow manages to frustrate us every time. It took 33 minutes to get our order, and the place wasn’t even packed. Since the food is already slow-cooked ahead of time, all they really have to do is plate it and warm the tortillas, so the delay was confusing.
When our food finally came out, it was packed to go. We reminded the waitress (again) that we were dining in. Honestly, we should have kept the to-go boxes, because it took another 8 minutes just to re-plate it — and then she brought it back with no plates and no silverware. So we had to wait again.
This is the third time we’ve had the same experience. We swore we wouldn’t come back, but the food lured us in again. Apparently, I need enough time to forget how bad the service is before I return.

The Haven was recommended by one of the locals we met at our stay on the Riverwalk. We wanted to find a place for breakfast outside of the tourist traps. Her recommendation did not disappoint. We took the long walk from the Riverwalk in the early morning while it was relatively cool. After the walk, our appetites were ready for breakfast tacos. Enjoyed The Haven Taco, The Gringo Taco and Chorizo Con Huevo Mix. It was all soooo good. Definitely worth the walk and visit.

I stopped by for the first time and ordered the Olga’s Special Taco Salad, asking for light oil on the chicken. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in a few areas:
• Too much grease: The lettuce looked shiny and felt drenched—the bowl was so oily that the bottom shell turned mushy.
• Tiny portion: For $14.50, I expected more. Even Dairy Queen offers a larger taco salad at a lower price.
• Unfriendly service: The waitress didn’t seem pleased with my request and her demeanor felt abrupt.
Overall, the dish didn’t match the price or expectations. I won’t be ordering it again or recommending it, especially when there are better-sized salads elsewhere. Hoping they’ll refine their portion size, oil usage, and customer interaction.
