Haven’t been here in quite a while but the food is exactly the way I remembered, freshly made with with their own unique batter blend for their chicken and fish. Ended up getting 10 pieces of perch and a 12-piece chicken dinner that comes with mashed potatoes and coleslaw and six rolls & butter, The dinner rolls did not get put with our to-go and I called back to inform them of the missing rolls & spoke with Nick and he informed me that in fact, the rolls were still there on the counter and that they would credit me for the next time I came in, because I lived so far away. So kudos to Nick and Cousins Tasty Chicken! For customer service and satisfaction.

This is a hidden gem!! The prices cannot be beat, and the quality and speed is superb!!! The tenders we ordered were ten times better than even Chick-Fil-A or Raising Cane’s tenders. The staff is no-nonsense, polite, and efficient. The dining area is quite pleasant for a party of four or fewer.

This place has the best fried chicken in G.R. Light and flavorful breading, juicy and moist chicken meat, tender and flaky catfish, the home made tartar sauce isn’t necessary but it’s so good you should try it just for the experience. You can dine in. You can order right from your table with a scan app. The hush puppies were really good. Very generous sized portions. Lots of gravy on the mashed potatoes. They’ve got gizzards and smelt on the menu. If I had to relocate, Cousins would be a landmark I’d want near me. The guy said he’s been in biz 42 years. Google has almost 2K organic reviews for this place. All the staff were friendly and engaged. They deserve 5+ stars! I will be back, again and again and again! Thanks Cousins!!

I recently took my son to Cousin’s Tasty Chicken after hearing that this classic Grand Rapids restaurant serves some of the best chicken in West Michigan — and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The portions were generous and very reasonably priced. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful, which added to the overall positive experience.
The menu offers an great selection of chicken, fish, and seafood, along with a wide variety of sides including fries, cheese curds, onion rings, and hush puppies to name a few. We tried the chicken tenders (both regular and spicy), French fries, and hush puppies — all were delicious and much better than what you get from similar restaurants in the area.
While some have mentioned that the interior is a bit dated, we found that it added to the charm, evoking a classic American restaurant atmosphere that’s become increasingly rare.
I highly recommend Cousin’s Tasty Chicken to anyone looking for excellent food, great service, and a nostalgic dining experience in Grand Rapids.

First time going there. Ordered chicken and fish combo and gizzards. I was sold hearts instead of gizzards. Tried to put them in air fryer to heat them up. Long story short they were CHICKEN HEARTS. They sold us chicken hearts instead of gizzards. Chicken and fish was okay. Cooks need to know the difference between hearts and GIZZARDS.

– Chicken Sandwich with Cheese – $5: Fried and medium tender. Good value for the price. The cheese was similar to Velveeta. It is probably better without it, but you be the judge.
They have Coke products in a soft drink dispenser as well as some pop cans.
– Service: Good and to the point. You order at the counter, they give you a stand with a number on it, and they bring the order to your table. The menu is clearly displayed on screens. Our order arrived fast and super hot. I noticed with larger orders, they were careful to follow up and make sure everyone got what they ordered and they did it right. It was busy so evidently they are doing something right.
– Atmosphere: Definitely a chicken-themed restaurant as summarized by them, “I’m not addicted to fried chicken. I’m committed.” It has a more casual and small country town feel, but much busier. It was a bit chaotic, but we were probably there during a much busier time. There were hard back benches and tables with a few chairs and all with a limited capacity to seat 4 at a table. There was contemporary Christian music played at medium volume. All in all it is what you would expect with the prices they offer.
– Conclusion: Worth it if you are looking for cheap and quick.
Visited on a Saturday at 1pm.

Great option is you’re looking for guilty fried food. Be aware that you stand at a counter to order your food and during peak meal times the line can get long.

This place is the real deal folks. Not the cheapest but the quality is there. We had a 1 lb order of Smelt and they were the best we’ve ever had. They’ve been around since 1983 for a reason. Shrimp was damn good too. Check it out and enjoy.

The food at Cousins Tasty Chicken was great! The fried chicken was juicy, the French Fries were nice and potato-ey (not like some restaurants where you just get a husk of a French Fry,) and the Raspberry Cheesecake Egg Rolls were solid. I also decided to try their Mac & Cheese Bites. I was afraid they were gonna be like the frozen, store-bought quality which I don’t enjoy, but they ended up being some of the tastiest Mac & Cheese Bites I’ve ever had. I hope to be back in GR soon so that I can give some other items on the menu a try!

The fried chicken was delicious. The outside was crispy, and the inside was moist and tender. The breading was just the right thickness. It was seasoned perfectly, so it wasn’t greasy at all. I want to go back again.
