Let’s talk about the gumbo. We’ll, if you want to call it that. It was way overcooked. The veggies, that could be recognized, were so overcooked that thet turned to mush in the mouth and were flavorless. There was heat as an aftertaste, as if seeking validation through being spicy. I really could not finish this as it was simply unpalatable. Oh, and no okra. Hello!!!
I simply would not recommend this place and a three is being very generous. I won’t be back.
We had shrimp po boys, bread pudding and cheese cake. Everything was good.
The building has plenty of tables to serve the lunch and dinner rush.
Thanks again!
I had an unreal meal at Ragin’ Cajun on Richmond Avenue in Houston (4302 Richmond Ave). Walking into “the shack” I wasn’t sure what to expect but the food absolutely blew my mind. From their blackened catfish to the crunchy po’‑boys, each dish was packed with flavor and cooked just right.
One of the biggest surprises was their wine selection. Never thought I’d pair a Pinot Grigio with some serious Cajun spice, but it worked. Definitely not your average joint when it comes to drinks.
Ambience is casual, warm, and fun. The walls are covered in character — the kind you see in true Louisiana-style spots. There’s character, great Southern vibes, and a menu that makes you want to try everything (and yes I almost did).
If you’re in Houston and craving Cajun/Creole, fresh seafood, or just somewhere with soul and flavor, this is the place to go. I’ll be back for sure.
