a nice place to eat American Mexican food. Decor is southwest US with country music in background. Plenty of parking somewhat expensive. Out server, Sarah, was outstanding. she knew the menu and she knew what was good to eat. She had a generally happy demeanor.
price to portion size was high. I ordered blackened fish tacos and rice. My friend ordered the steak fajitas. Drinks come in massive cups. menu has typical fare for this genre with a good variety of standard dishes. The noise level was a bit loud and hard ro hear.
I recommend this place more for a group than solo or for two. Better suited energy level for a group of 4 or more.

Border Cafe always hits the spot.
Conveniently located on Route One northbound in Saugus, Mass., it’s always my top choice for its great atmosphere and delicious Mexican cuisine. With a huge selection and reasonable prices, there’s truly something for everyone. But what sets them apart is their amazing staff, always friendly, hard working, attentive, and committed to making every visit memorable.
Border Cafe never disappoints and keeps me coming back for more every time.I Highly Recommend

Ailin T was a wonderful staff person, who waited the table of my 4 kids, daughter and son in law, plus 2 grandchildren. So pleasant and smiling every time she came to our table. The food was excellent as were the drinks. We were even able to ask for some meals for the kids that weren’t quite on the children’s menu- just some grilled chicken and rice for them. We celebrated my son’s birthday and she made it a great experience.

This place offers some good Mexican cuisine. The food was flavorful and each dish had its unique taste. The blackened chicken, shrimp tacos, and quesadillas were our favorites. Our server was welcoming and friendly. The place has a nice lively vibe.

It is a go-to spot for casual hangouts and a reliable comfort-food destination. Nestled right near Harvard Square, it has a lively, no-frills atmosphere with a constant buzz of conversation and sizzling plates making their way out of the kitchen. If you’re looking for great value, bold flavors, and a buzzing, energetic atmosphere, Border Cafe is a Boston staple that delivers every time. It’s not fancy, but it’s consistently satisfying — and that’s exactly what makes it awesome.

Got the blackened chicken fajitas… The chicken wasn’t just “blackened” it had some overpowering hot spice applied. I LOVE hot food but this was barely edible.
My wife ordered the rice and I ordered the jambalaya but the orders were reversed… Nothing that a quick fork transfer couldn’t fix.
We went late on a Sunday (3:30) and the place was almost empty. Kind of weird… Made it easier to talk… But it kind of killed the vibe.
The waitress was very pleasant and attentive… Not her fault

We go to this restaurant at least once a week and have also ordered online many times. I always order the chicken quesadillas or chicken enchiladas with a Coke, and my fiancé always orders the shrimp taco with no house sauce due to a food allergy, using sour cream instead. The online ordering system does not allow modifications, which hasn’t been an issue in the past because I always call immediately after placing the order to notify the kitchen about the allergy. Until recently, this was never a problem. Lately, however, the host and manager have been extremely rude and unprofessional. The host said she had to check with the manager just to notify the kitchen of an allergy-related request to remove an ingredient. When I asked to speak with the manager because I would otherwise need to cancel the order, the manager was hostile and dismissive, stating she would “tell the kitchen” but offered no guarantee they would actually follow the request. This would mean spending over $20 on food my fiancé may not even be able to eat due to an allergy, which is unacceptable. To make matters worse, a friend of mine had a similar experience the same morning. She placed an online order for curbside pickup because she is a single mother with a sleeping two-year-old in the car, but staff refused to bring the order out, forcing her to leave her child alone in a running vehicle. This is unsafe and irresponsible. If curbside pickup is not actually being honored, it should not be advertised. Overall, the recent service has been rude, dismissive, and very disappointing for a place we frequent so often.

Food was good. Service was quick, and server was attentive and pleasant. We ordered the Burros and Beef Tacos. Be careful if you get the Beef Tacos – the border sauce has horseradish in it and is a little strong. Ordered the Pastelitos for an appetizer and were served chips and dip when we sat down. We liked both of them. Probably our favorite part of the meal. This was a little different flavor than our usual Mexican restaurant experience, but we would go again.
