First, the food quality has noticeably declined. When I ordered, I asked if it was possible to remove the pickles and spicy mayo from the Cuban sandwich. The server responded that the food is now pre-made. That immediately raised a red flag for me because it suggests the items are no longer prepared fresh on site. She didn’t attempt to offer any alternative options, or solutions. she simply stood there and waited for me to move on. From a hospitality perspective, that’s a missed opportunity to provide basic guest care.
The service experience overall was substandard. The server never introduced herself, didn’t check on our table, and made no effort to engage. We were seated outside, but we could clearly see her inside talking with other customers leaning in, chatting, and giving them her full attention. Meanwhile, our table was completely ignored. She came by once to pick up a plate but didn’t ask if we were finished, didn’t offer dessert or the check, and didn’t acknowledge us again. We eventually had to go inside to request the bill because she simply never followed up.
The food itself looked mediocre (see attached photo), but the taste did indeed reflected that pre-made quality average at best, lacking freshness, and certainly not what Harriet & Natives was once known for. For a restaurant that built its reputation on authenticity, warmth, and community, this “assembly-line” feel is incredibly disappointing.
I completely understand that businesses evolve, and operations sometimes have to adjust for efficiency or cost. But there’s a way to do that without sacrificing the guest experience. When both the food and service decline simultaneously, it sends a clear message that the standards have slipped.
This visit felt careless and impersonal, which is the opposite of what good hospitality represents. I truly hope management takes the time to retrain staff on basic service etiquette and reevaluates the decision to serve pre-made items. Harriet & Natives used to stand out for its freshness, personality, and genuine connection with guests all of which seem to be missing now.
I was taken back about the Haitian breakfast comment on the menu. Not tasteful. Coming from someone who has Haitian family and friends.Might want to modify that.

“Looking for a true Old Florida gem?”
“Harry and the Natives” in Hobe Sound has been serving up down-home comfort food since 1941 — and trust me, it’s not your average diner.
From Gator Hash & Poached Eggs for breakfast to laid-back lunch plates, live music, and hilarious vintage signs… this place is the real deal.
It’s quirky, it’s cozy, it’s Florida AF — and it’s been doing it right for over 80 years.
Even though the political views on the menu I may not agree with. It’s okay to agree to disagree. That’s what makes “The United States” wonderful we are entitled to our own political views.

The food hits the spot in that comforting, no-fuss way. Portions are generous, flavors are solid, and everything comes out hot and fresh.
Service is friendly, quick, and down-to-earth—no pretension, just good people making sure you’re taken care of.
