We made 2 separate reservations for a group of 8 (4 and 4) for a Thursday evening. They have 2 sides of the restaurant. When we got there our reservation was on the other side and they have a grace period but make sure not to be late. This place reminds me of a traditional Japanese katsu place that only seeks katsu and prepared traditionally. They all come with unlimited salad and miso soup, you can always ask for more. You have options of sets to order for pork, different cuts of pork, chicken, and even beef. I ordered the most popular set which may have been a little too hearty and fat for me. I prob would have liked a leaner smaller portion. Some sets also come with a shrimp tempura. Nicely breaded and crunchy and good cuts of pork. I was stuffed at the end. You make your own sesame seed sauce and can use the mustard to add more taste and dip as well. If you’re driving here parking isn’t easy, you’ll have to find a parking garage.

December 2025 Popular Japanese originated restaurant serving arguably the best katsu and Yoshoku dishes on the island

Maintaining a high level of quality and consistency in service makes for a very enjoyable meal. The recommended dishes are indeed spot on. Yoshoku are dishes with Western influences from historic encounters and transformed into culinary staples. Serving sizes are very generous.

Service staff is very informative, helpful and attendant

The place is indeed cozy and well cleaned with a limited number of tables. Thus reservations are highly advised. Noise often carries across the area.

The toilet is shared with another establishment.

This place is a cozy spot in Waikiki and the last tonkatsu place on the island that I’ve been wanting to try so I could finally decide which one I think is the best. If you’re a local, they offer a 20% discount when you show your Hawaii ID, which is a nice perk.

I ordered the specialty kurobuta pork loin katsu set. It comes with unlimited cabbage, miso soup, and rice. My girlfriend got the gyukatsu set, which also comes with curry. They give you the traditional tonkatsu sauce bowl with sesame seeds that you grind yourself, which is always a nice touch. They only have one tonkatsu sauce option, but it was solid.

Overall, the food was good. The breading was nice and crispy, cooked perfectly, and the pork was tender and flavorful. The real star for me was the gyukatsu. They give you a hot stone so you can cook it to your liking, and that was definitely my favorite part of the meal.

The service was good and very accommodating. We were able to get a table for 11 last minute, which I really appreciated.

Overall, this place is solid. It’s definitely good, but it doesn’t take the top spot in my personal tonkatsu rankings.

We made reservations for 6:30 but got there a bit earlier and they let us in. Thank you for that, since we’re hungry. We had Pork tenderloin set and another one but premium set. The meat was so tender and panto was so light and crunchy. Tonkatsu sauce was delicious. Giant shrimp tempura was so ono! Curry that came with premium set was delicious. Our server was amazing. Very attentive and friendly. His name is Scott. Parking is next to ABC store in the Bank building underground. Make sure to bring ticket to get validation. This is our 2nd times at this restaurant. Will definitely come back again.

best katsu ive had in a while — so tender and great texture. i got the deluxe set kurobato pork and it was so tasty that i got an additional order of the minced pork katsu (whole hamburger katsu for $8). went with me and 3 of my boys, everyone was stuffed by the end. servers and owners were super sweet, we were the last ones in the restaurant and even after the kitchen closed, they were still happy to serve me additional food and curry last minute. would 100% recommend for anyone visiting and craving Japanese katsu

Ginza Bairin gives you classic Japanese comfort feeling. The location is convenient and easy to stop by. Inside Ginza Bairin, the vibe is calm and old-school, very relaxing.
Staff are polite and professional, explaining menu clearly. 日本の接客はやっぱり安心。Service speed is good, not rushed. The tonkatsu is crispy outside and juicy inside, not heavy at all. Rice and cabbage refill make you happy.
The space is quiet and clean, good for conversation or solo meal. No loud music, just peaceful dining. Ginza Bairin is simple but very satisfying. Ginza Bairin is the kind of place you want to return again.

Excellent Tonkatsu. I got the “special cut” they only have 20 per day available. I fell for the rarity and glad I did. The cut was tender and extra fatty… yum yum. Curry was good with it. you may need reservations even for lunch. After 1:30 the place quiets down. I’d come back here… and go with some Ebi fry

Food was good, but not mind-blowing. I got the combination platter. It came with a variety of tonkatsu pieces alongside an additional savory egg custard dish & curry sauce since I got the deluxe set. I was not a fan of the egg custard but I liked the curry sauce. It was nice to try a variety of tonkatsu pieces from the combination platter, but I did not like the dark meat pieces. I liked how crispy all the tonkatsu was though! The miso soup and cabbage salad that comes standard with all sets were delicious. Their spicy cucumber appetizer is a must-order. Service was okay, we had to flag down the servers a lot but it was busy so I don’t blame them.

Pretty much the best Katsu pork I’ve ever had, the chawanmushi also had the perfect texture. Service was excellent and attentive. Space is a bit cramped but that’s what you expect. Would go again for sure.

Made reservations for dinner here one evening during our stay. Glad I did because the place filled up quickly and seating is limited. Food is excellent and service was good. If you don’t know how to eat Japanese food just keep an eye on those seating next to you who are in the know and you’ll be fine. Regardless, I would very highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Japanese food and atmosphere to boot.
