Lincoln once visited this stage-coach stop turned down-home eatery for family-style American eats.

Unique place to have a good traditional meal. Amazing peanut butter pie. The knowledge of Abraham Lincoln once stayed there adds to the experience.

First off, don’t be in a hurry, but come hungry. It’s an extremely popular place. Chicken was spot on, cole slaw (vinegar base) awesome, German (fried) potatoes, awesome, mashed potatoes (wife says) the best! Grabbed a slice of carrot cake and German chocolate cake for the hotel.
I’m thinking from now on, only finished plates for my photos.
For a large group, definitely make reservations.

The food was good. I think the chicken could have used a little more flavor, but the gravy and biscuits were delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was amazing. I didn’t know the history of the place until we got there, so that was a nice treat. If I am ever in the area again I’d go back. FYI to us the German fries are just American (fried) potatoes, if you are wondering.

So we came back now a year later. Fried chicken mashed potatoes and brown gravey still great. Fried catfish and fried potatoes also yummy. Was sad as they didnt have any cornbread but everything else was great. Had some apple pue this time and loved it. Also got sone ham to take away and loved it.
Best fried chicken I have had in years and the cornbread…..cornbread is like butter, sooooooo good. Greenbeans, corn, fried potatoes if I could give 6 stars I would

It was as good as everyone says it is! I was skeptical because it’s hard to find decent restaurant food these days, but they hit the mark for home style cooking. Everything was delicious! Service was fantastic even though they were busy.
If you’re looking for some good food, make this a place you check out!

You can literally dine in the same room Lincoln did. We were able to get the “Lincoln” room tonight. This historic restaurant is a great place to have dinner, especially if you have a large group or a special occasion. They only accept cash or check no cards but there is an ATM on the premises. Their claim to fame is that Abe Lincoln ate there and it is likely. Dinner can be served family style and I assure you that you will take food home. The do take reservations but only for large groups so plan ahead. They are quite busy.

I have been eating here since I was a kid. It was a staple with my grandparents and now can carry on the tradition with my kids. Best fried chicken and coconut cream pies.

I visited on 09/17/23. We were invited to a party and it was my 2nd time ever being here. We booked a party for upstairs, it was roughly 30 to 40 people. Our server was very attentive and took care of us. When we first arrived it was very busy! The food is awesome! I like how they serve family style, cause, well, family is always a great reason to get together. The food was hot and delicious! I will be back, I don’t know why other reviews I had read weren’t as good, but my experience was fantastic!

Ridiculously slow. I arrived at 5:05pm and was seated within 5 minutes. I was a party of one! It was busy, but it seemed that everyone was spaced out appropriately so that each area had an assigned server. It took another 10 minutes for my server to get to me…. I ordered a 1/4 chicken dinner with potato salad. I didn’t get it until close to 6:30pm. The server kept assuring me that it was coming, yet piles and piles of food were being carried to other rooms, and people (who were in groups of 3+) who were seated after me (in a different area across the room) got their food before I did. It was disheartening to say the least. I know the food is prepared fresh, but an hour for a 1/4 chicken dinner?? Come on. The food was ok — definitely not worth an hour wait for. I should’ve gotten up and left, but the hostess and waitress kept assuring me that “it’s coming!” Not again. I arrived to beat the dinner rush, but apparently not.

The food is always perfect. Homemade lemonade is great. Coleslaw is vinegar, NOT sweet, which I think is exactly how it should be made that most places don’t. It’s a local favorite for a reason.
