There was a selection of happy hour specials on appetizers and we had the avocado egg rolls, chips and dip, and potstickers. They were all nicely prepared portions, flavorful and plenty to share between the two of us. We didn’t order main entrees so I can’t comment on those this time.
The kids meal options were various and more than most bar type spots. Shout out to Jacob behind the bar who was incredibly helpful and kind to us and our kiddos.
Charles the manager also came around and all the staff were very sweet and complimentary to our family. Nice atmosphere, good for families, a casual date or dinner with friends. Enrolled in their rewards program and looking forward to being back!
While in town for a weekend getaway, my wife and I decided to try BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse in Cary for the first time—and we’re glad we did. The experience was a satisfying blend of hearty flavors, generous portions, and attentive service.
Entrée Highlights
I ordered the prime rib, served with loaded mashed potatoes and asparagus. The prime rib was impressively thick, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The accompanying au jus added a rich, savory depth that elevated each bite. The mashed potatoes were indulgent and well-balanced, offering a creamy texture with just the right amount of toppings.
My wife opted for the thick-cut, bone-in pork chop, which was equally impressive. The portion was generous, and the flavor profile was bold and satisfying. Paired with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus, the dish was a standout—especially the pork chop, which was cooked beautifully and packed with flavor.
Room for Improvement
The only minor drawback was the asparagus. While it tasted fine, they were not as plump as when I cook them at home, and some were shriveled, suggesting it may have been overcooked. It didn’t detract significantly from the meal, but it was noticeable given the otherwise high quality of the dishes.
Final Thoughts
BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse delivered a memorable dining experience with standout entrées and a welcoming atmosphere. Despite the slight misstep with the asparagus, we left satisfied and eager to return. Next time we’re in Cary, BJ’s will definitely be on our list to explore more of their menu.
It has a great atmosphere conducive for solo visits and large groups. The staff was professional and friendly. We did not feel rushed so we were able to take our time perusing the menu and ordering several dishes.
Our server, Chloe H, was delightful. She took great care of us and brought our dishes out in a timely manner. I had lots of questions about menu items, and she was gracious enough to spend some time answering my questions and making sure that I had all the information that I needed.
We ordered various things from the menu. The food in general was good, but there was no pizzazz. My lemon pepper wings were OK, but was not what I imagined for it being roasted and prepared in the way that it was described in the menu. The lemon pepper seasoning was not ingrained in the flavor of the wings. It was more like if the lemon pepper seasoning was sprinkled over the wings. I enjoyed the onion rings but again it was just standard, nothing special. The surf and turf and salmon dishes were alright. Of everything ordered, the highlight was the PIZOOKIE®.
Overall, we had an enjoyable time with our visit at this restaurant. We did visit this restaurant after 9:30 PM at night so perhaps that’s why we didn’t have that level of excitement about the food. I will consider visiting this restaurant a little earlier on in the day at another time to see if there’s a difference in the quality of the food.
