I was really disappointed with my experience at El Merengue. The main issue was the lack of staff available to assist customers. There were not enough servers on the floor, which caused a major delay.

I ended up waiting over 50 minutes for my food, and during that time there was little to no communication or updates about the delay. I understand restaurants can get busy, but proper staffing and customer service make a big difference.

The food may be good, but the long wait and poor service really took away from the overall experience. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself returning unless staffing and service improve.

I usually enjoy this place, but this order was a total miss. I spent $33 (with tip) and got food that was cold and disappointing. The yellow rice was hard, like leftover bottom-of-the-pot scraps, and the fried meat turned rubbery after reheating. They offered replacement rice, but who wants to wait 20 more minutes for food that should’ve been fresh and hot to begin with? For the price, this is just not acceptable. Hoping this was a one-time slip, but definitely not impressed this time.

Got a lot of food. Got some shredded Pork, fish and brown rice. Really good. I’d come back again. Place inside is huge. They got a bar and club looking place on other side. But came on a Sunday morning so it was closed.

I stopped at this place recently looking forward to enjoying a large cup of delicious Avena like I used to have years ago. However what I bought was a over priced cup of watery avena. The worst Dominican avena cup I have ever had. Totally disappointed with this typical brekfast drink.

I love you guys I’m coming back soon…so, the karaoke starts at 9. The combos are around $20 for a lot !!! Of food and they are served with 2 liter of soda. Great vibes. I love you guys. The women are also gorgeous. This was the highlight of my stay in Newark

They charged me $8 for 2 real small coffees, not even espressos. And the floor was dirty and sticky.

Nope never again ordering here… soooo expensive for very little food. And the service is awful not attentive nor welcoming. I order chicharrón de pollo and it was not it, the chicken had mostly bones no meat, and not crispy. They charge the meats separately with no sides, and if you want cheese in your mofongo get ready to pay an EXTRA $5 FOR CHEESE!!!! I’m so disappointed of the quantity they served, $9 for lunch special and there was only THREE SMALL pieces of chicken!!! With ALOT of white rice
