We were passing through town and stubbled on this cute breakfast restaurant! We got the buckwheat pancake, veggie scramble and the brown sugar oatmeal. Both we’re delicious! The eggs were cooked perfectly and fresh veggies were used. The pancake looks burnt in the picture, but it wasn’t! It was flavorful and fluffy! I’m always seeking out buckwheat pancakes and this did not disappoint! The service was wonderful, friendly and quick! The prices we’re reasonable too!

If your up visiting the mountains west of Colorado Springs, this is a good place to visit for a tasty and filling breakfast that’ll warm you up and fill your energy tank for whatever activity you have planned thereafter.

The decor is quaint and emphasizes a happy bear theme.

Be prepared for a slight wait as the place is very popular. The food orders are processed promptly, but the service is a bit slow as the place always appears to be full and the waitresses are more than fully occupied catering to all of their customers needs

The portion size is good for most things except the meats. From the reviews I was expecting two large plump sausage links to be served with my pancakes and eggs and was disappointed to get a couple of links each smaller than my pinky.

I also found the meal to be a bit pricey. Pancakes, eggs and sausage cost $13 and my coffee cost $3.50. I know that inflation has hit everything hard this past couple of years. But paying over $20 for breakfast when including the tip still seems a bit too much for me.

After the long line we ordered lunch from here. The waitress ripped a cup from my kids hand while he was asking for a refill. The grilled cheeses we ordered weren’t even cooked correctly, on top of everything else you have to pay $10 just for them to give my kid craft Mac n cheese. This place is a total rip off.

I like this place a lot. There’s a nice atmosphere, even being busy, it didn’t feel chaotic, our waitress and the rest of the staff were calm and very friendly. Despite being busy, we didn’t have a wait to be seated, though I’m sure at times there will be.

The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. They have a good menu and I’ll definitely be back as there are several other items I want to try.

It’s places like this that make me wish we could rate by the half star, and I would’ve given a 4, but the pie sold me on a 5 star. This place is so well themed, it’s a nice small place. Service can be a bit slow, but it’s run by a small tightknit group, and everything is made from scratch, so while it may be slow, everything food wise is of really good quality. Also, I cannot recommend the strawberry cream pie enough, what a fantastic treat to eat! Definitely consider giving this place a try if you’re driving by!

Way too expensive for what we received…

Stopped here passing through from Divide. The food was.. eh. Our order:
My husband: chicken sandwich with fries
Me: breakfast burrito with half sausage gravy, half green chili, and a buttermilk pancake.

My husband’s food was not good, he said it tasted like boiled chicken with a slice of cheese on a bun. The fries were just regular fries, no notes there. I wish I had a picture of it…

My breakfast burrito was fine, the gravy was awful and tasted like it was from a bag/can. The green chili was the best part, it was great! I think the burrito portion was perfect, it was a great size and had a good mix of filling. Seriously though, that gravy was a disgrace, and it’s not that hard to make from scratch. The pancake seemed to be made from scratch which is great! I couldn’t tell if the whipped cream was made from scratch or from a can. The strawberries weren’t very fresh, they felt like they had been sliced maybe a couple days prior. The pancake was alright, really nothing special but I like that it was less than five dollars for size of it.

The service was alright, she was very nice but it was SO slow. It seemed like she only had 4 tables and we were all having to wait for everything. I asked for 2 waters, a cranberry juice, and a chocolate shake. We only received 1 water, and the cranberry juice was warm with no ice (that may not be her fault, it might be specific to that restaurant, but I would recommend serving juices like that with some ice especially because they don’t come out cold). I had to ask for a cup of ice and another ice water. The chocolate shake was alright as well.

Overall, the food needed some salt and that gravy needs to be reevaluated. The chicken sandwich needs a sauce and some major adjustments as well.

My favorite parts of the restaurant:
• the giant wheel that you get to spin if you spend over $50. I thought it was super cute.
• they make a point to explain how they use real butter to cook their food, which is great
• the butter pats are at room temperature, and I like the full pour container of sugar on the table
• they really stuck with the bear theme throughout

Hungry Bear is a cozy, no-frills diner-style spot known for generous portions and classic comfort food. It’s a go-to for hearty breakfasts—think pancakes, omelets, and biscuits & gravy—and satisfying lunch staples like burgers and sandwiches. Service is typically fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming and casual, often with a local, family-friendly vibe. It’s not fancy, but it hits the spot if you’re craving a solid, filling meal at a reasonable price. Great for a laid-back start to the day.

Very cozy, the food was excellent!! The country fried steak breakfast burrito is sooo good and my husband got an eggs-ellent omelette We did not leave hungry. The service was great, they were super busy, so the staff was going everywhere, but they kept checking in with us and making sure we were good on our drinks. It’s just an awesome place all around.

This place is really fun: it has a lot of bears and funny quotes. The food was not that heavy; It tasted refreshing with the green chili. Service was excellent.
