Mj’s is great. They are fresh oysters, a variety of seafood to choose from, and their specials are always knock it out of the park. Oh and if you like burgers one of the best in town. Just be prepared to show up early or to wait. It’s always busy…Which is a sign of a great restaurant. Highly recommend.

We were a party of six. In New Bern 4 the 2026 spring North Carolina State beekeepers conference. We had dinner here one evening and it was fantastic. I had the seafood pot pie and french fries.
Others had lots of oysters and crab cakes for the appetizers we had at the beginning were excellent.

This was a cool little restaurant pub that we went to during MUM Festival as the weather was terrible, so there was nothing going on outside.
I cannot remember our waiters name, but we said at the bar so not only was he our waiter he was our bartender and he had a great personality in his service was impeccable!
The whole staff was friendly and professional.
It’s not a very large place and it can get very busy very quickly just because their food is absolutely delicious. You won’t find better seafood in too many places than MJ’s raw bar and Grill. You will not be disappointed.

New to town and had heard good things…Came in for lunch on a blustery December day.
Had a spectacular Manhattan Clam Chowder (at least that’s what I’d call it, the tomato and vegetable based one).
I’m terrible with names or I would sing the praises of the lovely server.
I care about food and so would usually prefer to just talk to the the server and see what they recommend. In this case, she was kind, warm and knowledgeable about offerings and so I never even bothered to look at the menu!
Her recommendation of the aforementioned soup was hearty, with a wonderful fish base and lots of fresh vegetables. Heavenly!
Since I was having such a lovely time, I lingered and treated myself to her second recommendation… The key lime pie.
I’m not from the keys and so I can’t speak to is
“Authenticity.” What I will say is that it was darn good. A perfect balance of tangy and sweet. Amazing mouth-feel for the custard-ey bit and a THICK homemade graham cracker crust. It was so thick it proved challenging for the table ware. So delicious I just picked it up with my fingers and went to town. I recommend you do the same. Very worth it

Great atmosphere. Wonderful and delicious food with traditional and unique seafood sele tions. I chose a tuna poke bowl with seaweed. It was delicious. Of course we had to try their fantastic Bloody Mary’s .

When your soft shell crab shows up vibing on your Bloody Mary like he owns the glass…. Is it a drink? Is it a meal? I say yes!…. Oh and all of the other food was AMAZING! We absolutely love the place. I highly recommend. The service is phenomenal also.

What are fun stop! Lunch with my wife, downtown. We came here for her love of Shrimp and Grits. This is a nice little place, always seems to be busy. The service is excellent and the food was fresh, hot, and delicious. My wife had the Shrimp and Grits and I had the Blackened Grouper fish and chips. Both were great. Also the fries seem to have some old bay or some type of seasoning that made them unexpectedly great.

This was a tough review to consider. The service was so good I almost over looked the rest. Our friendly blonde headed waitress was attentive and helpful. She even chased be down the street to return an item I left behind. The food was mediocre. I had the Tuna Poke bowl appetizer. The fish was good quality, but the seaweed base was sparse. They get bonus points for an abundance of ginger which I love. The main dish was a solid C aspiring to be B. The fish was heavy on salt and the presentation was bleak. The atmosphere is cramped. To many small tables stacked on each other. If it was the only game in town I would go there, but as for now I will explore others.

Good atmosphere, location, service and food. Right in the center of downtown New Bern. We got a crab cake sandwich with fries and seafood pot pie that were delicious. I was surprised there was an up charge for credit card payment which it was taken out at the moment of paying (maybe because it was our anniversary). That was very nice of them
Other than that it was overall a pleasant experience. I recommend this restaurant and will be back next time with the rest of family

My husband and I were visiting here for the weekend and decided to try this place. We were impressed! Such a good restaurant! We can’t stop talking about how good everything was! The oysters were amazing! 10/10 food. The service was also so great, we never had to ask for anything! 10/10 experience!
