Fantastic burger and hot dog for a quick lunch.
We ordered a cheese burger and a hotdog “all the way” meaning including everything, cole slaw, mustard, onion etc)
Burger and hot dog were so tasty that we ordered another hotdog just to satisfy our palate
Price are definitely cheaper than all the famously fast food burger places.
Service was fast, efficient!
I had to take one star away from atmosphere because of the 2 big trash cans were right at the entrance, I guessed it’s practical but probably if they can put at some corner (?)

Passed through Elizabethtown with family and saw their good ratings so we wanted to try out the hotdogs and hamburger. Love the old school vibe and simple menu…hot dog or hamburger, you choose from chips or cookies, they have the option of bottled drinks or fountain. Sweet tea was really good. Hotdogs and hamburger were fresh, I had chili and slaw. They were a little heavy on the slaw. More chili than slaw would of been great, same for the hamburger. The kids enjoy their ketchup only hotdogs. Definitely worth the stop.

The ladies behind the counter were very nice. I do feel they try to move so quickly, that efficiency is lost. My order was ready before I finished speaking. Thus, I got to the table and my hot dog order was incorrect. The hot dogs were barely lukewarm. So I said to myself, “perhaps the cole slaw cooled it down.” That’s not the case because my hot dog without slaw was barely warm also. The texture of the burgers were horrid! It had a grainy consistency. They were lukewarm also. I couldn’t finish my food. I’ll never understand the excitement behind this place. I drove approximately a hour to get here. A huge letdown!

Went there yesterday on my way back to Wilmington NC for a quick lunch, it was the first time I’ve been there in thirty years. Bottom line it was just as good as I remember in the eighties and nineties. One of the best I’ve ever had if not the best. Melvin’s Elizabeth Town NC it’s a must!

Unpretentious place serving great hamburgers and hot dogs. Be prepared. The only burger toppings are mustard, chili, slaw, onions, ketchup, and cheese. I ordered mine “All the way.” It was delicious but would have been just as tasty with just meat and cheese. No fries. Just chips. There was a long line (we arrived at around 1 p.m.), but service is quick, and we were in and out in about 20 minutes. Overall, it was a great burger. The taste of the burger was 5 stars, but my preference is tomatoes and mayo on burger, and for that reason, I ranked the food as a 4., but if ” all the way,” isn’t broke, then don’t fix it. Try one for yourself if you’re ever in Elizabethtow!

Believe the hype. Top tier service and friendly staff they were immaculate and very personable. All the way dog was better than expected and I had high expectations this is the spot to eat in the area without a doubt. Iconic and classic would highly recommend to any and all.

Drove down from Fayetteville to get lunch with the family, got hotdogs and burgers. Two burgers were still pink in the middle. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was welcoming.

First time at the Famous Melvin’s. Menu is simple, food is tasty and hot. Got a dog and a burger, all the way. Loved the slaw, and should have asked for extra chilly it was so good. Hot dog was tender, and the burger had that wonderful flattop crust but not overdone. Ate inside and watched a crazy long line form and be served quickly. Definitely worth a stop if in the neighborhood. Don’t let a line out the door stop you.

I have been coming to Melvin’s for well over 45 years. The food has fallen off in the last few years. The flavor is not special anymore. I can get an overcooked hamburger with lackluster topping’s anywhere. I used to feel welcome, now it’s give me your order and move on. New ownership several years ago and I have to say please go back to the way it used to be!!

I hate to give bad reviews but our experience was not dissimilar to several other not so good reviews. On the good side, the place seems to serve a lot of customers so it can’t be all bad and the service was fast. The prices were reasonable too. The bad was the food. I think we all got burgers, there were probably 6 of us with burgers and we all said about the same thing. They were over cooked and crunchy around the edges. Not sure if that was a fluke or not but by other reviews it’s pretty normal. They are not very helpful if you dont know they don’t serve fries or condiments like mayonnaise or tomatoes. That seemed common in other bad reviews as well. Not sure if we’ll ever get back to try anything else or not.
