In 1972 Redcoat Tavern was conceived as something that at
the time was entirely novel: a casual tavern (or pub) that took a serious, detailed approach
to the quality of its food and beverage offerings with a menu that reflected the distinct
personality and soul of the restaurant. An establishment liberated from both culinary
structures and fads, where simpler foods would be celebrated, where comfort and
informality would not have to mean mediocrity. Some decades later this concept caught on,
starting in and around London, eventually coming to be called a ‘gastro-pub’. And gastropub, or perhaps ‘gastro-tavern’, is indeed a fitting moniker to describe what we have been
doin for 50 years.
American-British tavern known for burgers & battered onion rings draws crowds with ample beer picks.

Voted Best Burger in Detroit for 50 times, Redcoat is a decent burger place.
The interior design goes the old-fashioned wooden floor type, gives you the feeling of originality.
Ordered their Original Redcoat Special Burger, not bad, but wa not impressed, the shredded lettuce reminds you Big Mac, and you know what, I think that it’s a extended version of Big Mac as the portion is also big.

I’ve been coming to this place for years but today my husband and I went for lunch and it was extremely cold in the restaurant. It made our experience horrible trying to eat in that atmosphere. I had to go to the restroom just to warm my hands . I did mention it to one of the workers, and he said “let me go tell someone, because you aren’t the only one who has said something ” I never heard back from him nor did it warm up. Every customer had a hoodie or coat on which can make it very uncomfortable when trying to enjoy a meal. The food was great and our server was very attentive but it was so cold I couldn’t wait to get the bill and leave.

I recently went here with a family member, and I liked it! The atmosphere was very good, and I ordered some fried perch, which even though was kinda bland (obviously not their fault, just that the taste is bland), I still know that they tried!

A few months ago, I stopped in here to get a famous red coat burger. They are one of the top rated Burgers and all of Michigan. The bartender talked me into trying the blackend white fish. As good as the burgers are, That fish rocked. Not only was that a healthy alternative to a burger, but it was the best whitefish I’ve ever had. Hopefully they put it back on the menu. That is the only disadvantage of trying something new. You never know if that item will be available the next time you decide to dine at the establishment. Granted you can always have a burger and they always have the Piedmont beef, which is healthier, but that white fish was incredible. This is a great restaurant regardless, but just wanted to give them a shout out and let them know how great that meal was.

Redcoat Tavern is truly a gem! Their French onion soup is absolutely incredible—perfectly savory, cheesy, and comforting. The Piedmont cheeseburger is easily one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection with fresh, flavorful ingredients.
The service was top-notch; the staff were friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between cozy and lively.
Whether you’re grabbing a meal with friends or just looking for a place with amazing food, Redcoat Tavern is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back!

I went in expecting the kind of burger that makes you stop talking mid-bite and say “Wow”….What I got was…OK.
The patty was cooked well enough and the burger was perfectly edible, but it didn’t have that OMG factor that justifies the hype (or the braggy #1 burger in…). The flavors felt pretty standard, the overall bite was a little forgettable, and I kept thinking about a handful of nearby spots that deliver a juicier, more memorable burger with fewer claims attached.
If you’re already here, you’ll get an okay burger. If you’re making a special trip because you’ve been told it’s the best around, I’d reset expectations or go elsewhere.

Always great food… can’t go wrong with the Brasserie Burger… yum! Nice brews on draft, especially the Weihenstephaner – St. Bernardus Kombine. Thanks to our great server in the bar, Arielle!

This restaurant was more high end the clientele was reserved and better dressed. The waiter was very helpful he brought samples of different draft beers to pick which one we wanted .suggested a delicious berry beer also very good. I wanteda salad with spinach, cucmbers, tomatoes, and beets. But I didn’t think I wanted the chicken that was also in it. He suggested that I ask for blackened chicken and I was very happy with the result. The only downside side is they give you too much food! I noticed that all the diners left with boxes to take home. The price was good. It is a very nice restaurant would definitely go there again. I would recommend it to anyone who would like a nice relaxing kid free atmosphere with people that are more reserved. Very impressed with food, atmosphere, and waited staff. A grat place to go for a relaxing evening.
