The Sou’Wester Gift & Restaurant Co. began in 1967 as a small five table tearoom at the side of a house at its present location in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. It has been expanded over the last five decades to a 180-seat restaurant offering traditional Maritime and seafood dishes, and a two-level gift shop with one of the Maritimes largest selections of giftware. Today, more than 50 years later, The Sou’Wester is still run by the family of its founder, Jack Campbell.
Longtime seafood restaurant at Peggy’s Point Lighthouse with breakfast-to-dinner eats & a gift shop.

Reviews
Service was truly excellent — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Absolutely no complaints on that front.
Unfortunately, the food was the complete opposite. The lobster roll was shockingly disappointing, especially considering we were in Nova Scotia. The lobster was small, bland, not sweet, not meaty — just very underwhelming. I had lobster rolls all over the province, including at major spots right on the water (some even Michelin-rated), and for some reason the lobster everywhere tasted “off” this season. Maybe it was the time of year, but the flavour just wasn’t there at all.
The potato salad was honestly gross — no balance, no seasoning, and not enjoyable in the slightest.
I hate writing negative reviews when service is impeccable, but the food was truly horrendous. I would never come back based on the quality of the meal.
I have fond memories of eating chowder here, and I was SO excited to come back for a bowl after 6 years. Sadly the chowder I got today was a bland & lukewarm sludge, despite looking good.
My advice: skip this place and head to Lunenburg for a way better bowl of chowder at Salt Shaker.
That’s what we did, it was $3 more but absolutely worth the price (especially considering the size).
After a long, scenic walk around Peggy’s Cove — soaking in the rugged coastline and iconic lighthouse views — we started searching for a place to eat. Just as we were getting hungry, we stumbled upon a cozy little restaurant nearby. My mother-in-law and fiancé went for the haddock fish and chips, while I couldn’t resist ordering the lobster sandwich. And wow — it was insanely delicious! The lobster meat was incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and the sandwich was bursting with flavor. We were all impressed. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the view from the restaurant added to the charm. We’re definitely coming back next time we’re in the area!
Service was down to earth goodness. All staff were friendly, genuine, and cared if you were having a good experience.
I was so excited to have an opportunity to hold the lobster … so sorry I dropped it on the floor
I had the claim chowder, and seafood platter. It was great.
The gift shop had an incredible selection, I never woke on that day thinking I needed oven mitts and sure enough I walked out of that gift store with puffin oven mitts
Thanks everyone for the life long memories and incredible service.
I definitely recommend you make this a must stop place when you visit Peggy’s Cove
I ordered the seafood platter and the seafood chowder, both of which were outstanding. The chowder was creamy and packed with fresh seafood, while the platter offered a delectable assortment, showcasing the best of what the ocean has to offer. The combination of flavors was simply divine, and each bite was a reminder of the fresh coastal ingredients they use.
With its stunning views and warm atmosphere, The Sou’wester is a must-visit destination. I can’t wait to return for another fantastic meal!
Coady guided us through the menu and recommended the fresh lobster. highly recommend “Steamed lobster” “seafood platter“ ‘fish and chips’
Coady made sure every detail was just right—drinks topped up, plates cleared, and moments timed perfectly so we could savor both the food and the view.
It wasn’t just dinner; it was an experience we’ll never forget. We’ll be back for the lobster, the service, and that unforgettable sunset!
