Quirky, rustic spot with no-nonsense smoked-meat meals, many knickknacks & a working model train.

This has been my go to place for BBQ on my birthday when opened meaning if my birthday does not fall on Sunday or Monday. Went Saturday, had to wait but not unusual. Got combo plate – sliced brisket and chopped pork, slaw and stew.
Not sure what happened but the pork and especially brisket were less than optimal. Pork was too dry (overdone?), brisket WAY too much fat. I prefer thinner sliced brisket than I got. Stew, slaw both on point and gotta love Cracklin’ Cornbread.
Our server, Margaret was SUPER. The atmosphere here is SUPER. LOVE the place.
Hopefully when December 20th rolls around again, the BBQ will be what I am used to.

You cannot mess up brisket..but!! Well we’ve found another tough chew situation. Barbque should melt in your mouth on the fatty side! The meat should or almost should slide off the bone on ribs and chicken should be moist, with some give! None of that was found here! No fatty brisket insight, very tough to the teeth pull! Same with the ribs, just not moist, tender and missing succulent! The chicken came is a pile, which instantly can be recognized and dry! Even drenched in sauce, no help on moisture or flavor! No sign of smoke on anything, except the guy outside with a cigarette and the wood burning aromas as you pull up! The cornbread triangles are better served as defense rocks in case of the need to escape. Hard not moist and warm. Cold and hard! No warm welcomes when we entered and switching tables (for belly space) was an arguisous task. I would not recommend this place for southern Barbque at all. Maybe northern, as in Northern Europe! Would not recommend this as a barbecue spot for brisket or ribs. Maybe something else om the menu, but not those 2! Peace and blessings!

Pulled pork, beans and slaw were fantastic. My lunch was so good that I went back later and bought the family meal to take home for dinner.

This is the kind of place you feel more American walking out of. Some of the best pulled pork I’ve ever had in my life. You could walk in here with a New York accent and walk out southern as can be. It’s that good.

We visited with a large family group, (over 20 people) after a funeral. The staff seated us all very quickly. Even though we had one waitresses serving all 3 of our extended tables, her service was fast, friendly, and orders came out quickly and accurately. Everyone’s food came fresh, hot, and delicious! The restaurant is a bit hidden from view from the main road, but well worth the effort to find. About halfway between Griffin and Hampton on the east side of Hwy 19/41.

I reserved the Southern Pit Banquet Hall for my husband’s surprise party with Deanna. She went above & beyond to help keep the party a surprise. The Banquet Hall was the perfect size for 50 guests. There was plenty of parking even on a busy Saturday. The menu of chopped brisket, chicken, coleslaw and baked beans was delicious and was brought exactly at the time requested. There was plenty for everyone to have second helpings. Thank you again, Southern Pit, for helping to make a wonderful day into a fond memory for everyone!
Sincerely,
Laurie Bailey

Overall 3 stars. Not horrible, not the best. French fries are not tossed so they give very wimpy sad vibes. Mac n cheese was good. Meat was a bit dry. The saving grace was the cobbler. If I was rating just dessert it would be 5/5 even if the server threw it in my face. But that’s not the whole review so it’s 3/5

Came in hyped after hearing all the “best BBQ in Georgia” hype—slow-smoked perfection, legendary ribs, the works. What a swing and a miss. The meat was drier than a politician’s apology, the smoke flavor was basically nonexistent (did they forget to light the pit?), and the sides tasted like they were phoned in from a sad cafeteria line. Service was fine, I guess, but it couldn’t save the fact that this was some of the most forgettable, overrated BBQ I’ve ever paid for. If this is Griffin’s idea of top-tier ‘cue, I’ll stick to gas station hot links next time. Save your money, your taste buds, and the stomach ache —drive past this one.

The BBQ pork, chicken, and brisket are consistently good, as well as all of the sides. I haven’t tried the ribs yet, but friends say they’re the best around. The portions are generously sized. All of the desserts are great, but get the carrot cake if you have to share, because it’s huge! The service is always excellent, especially from Kyna!
