Whenever I’m in LA I have to eat at The serving Spoon! Being a Chef myself I’m very very picky and I don’t eat anyone else’s cooking if I don’t have to but Here I’m never disappointed! Customer service is always good! It’s always packed and a wait but it’s never a long crazy wait! Food always good and em Turkey Chops be hitting! I love that it’s Family owned and I love to see all the young people working and earning their way ☺️ I’m in the mist of relocating to the area so I’ll be back even more now and I’m definitely looking forward to it! Keep up the great work

The day began with a journey from Downtown Los Angeles to Inglewood for breakfast at the legendary Serving Spoon. Getting there as a wheelchsir user on public transit was part of the adventure itself: about an hour on the Metro E Line, followed by a transfer to the Metro 212 bus, and then a 25-minute roll to the restaurant. When I finally arrived, the place was packed and buzzing with energy—loud, lively, and about 98% Black, which immediately felt like home. Navigating through the crowd took a bit of maneuvering, but the restaurant itself was wheelchair accessible and the staff were patient and accommodating. The Serving Spoon met all of my expectations—and then some. The menu was incredibly inviting, and I went with the eggs, grits, and a side of greens. Everything was outstanding. The eggs were fluffy and golden, the grits were absolutely banging—no seasoning needed, though I happily added black pepper—and the greens were rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned.
The service matched the food: warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Even with the tight space during peak hours, I never felt rushed or overlooked. Despite the long trek from Downtown LA using the Metro E Line and the 212 bus, this is a place I have to return to at least once more before I leave.
I absolutely enjoyed the food, staff and the ambience of The Serving Spoon.

I had family in town, so we stop in for brunch. It was a group of three, so we were able to be seated fast. The hostess had a wonderful disposition as she greeted each of the guests. She informed us that the weight was thirty minutes and handed each of us with a menu. The menu is also QR coded. Server took our orders promptly after we were seated. After our was taken, she read it back to ensure all of the orders were correct. I order the salmon croquettes with black eye peas and green. My niece had all sides, greens, black eye peas, yams and rice and beans. My sister had fried chicken with greens and yams. We all were pleased with our meal and the service we received. The restaurant has counter seating as well as booth seating. Parking is limited.

I was having a bad day at work, so I decided to just go to a diner to blow off some steam. When I walked into The Serving Spoon I was greeted with such positive vibes and good hospitality. The waitress was also very patient & helpful when I was undecided on what to eat. I don’t know her name but her smile lifted up my spirit. The chili on top of everything omelette she recommended was so delicious. Overall my whole experience was very enjoyable.

I ordered a dish I wouldn’t usually order! It was sooooooooooo good. Catfish with scrambled eggs, cheese, & onions, with southern potatoes & a biscuit. The catfish was so fresh, flake /crispy, & a good flavor. NOT FISHY!!! Yummy. My Best friend had the same but she had grits & toast & loved it. The Service was amazing. STAFF “ALL” We encountered were so pleasantly sweet. I would go there again. This place was packed. So you know the food is good!

I caught them about 45 mins before closing, I was seated immediately. They have low counter seating as well as tables/booths. This place gives grandma / auntie’s cooking. It’s classic, vintage, old school. I tried the chicken wings, collard greens , and yams. The dinner meals come with cornbread. My chicken and yams were great. Collards were good but I felt could have had a tad more seasoning/flavor. I had a muddy water , on the east coast we call them an “uptown” which is a 1/2 iced tea & 1/2 lemonade. It was delicious. My cornbread was good also, I spread the butter and the honey that came with it. I’d definitely return when I’m in the area and recommend to anyone looking for a casual vibe and yummy food . The owner was also very nice, she walked through the restaurant smiling and checking on customers at the tables. Service was good! Thank you

Amazing breakfast spot near my house. Been going for years and the food is consistently delicious. The place gets super packed and when they have only one server the service really suffers. The waffle and potatoes are one of a kind. It’s a five out of five for consistency through the years.

The restaurant was crowded, with a cozy indoor waiting area. My boyfriend ordered the classic grits, eggs, and bacon, along with bone-in catfish. I told him the fins were edible too—they were crispy and flavorful. The fish itself was fresh with a thin, crispy fried coating.

I had the liver for lunch, which was fresh and tender, served with onions, adding a rich flavor. My boyfriend noted a distinct iron taste and suggested liver enthusiasts shouldn’t miss it. The cornbread and waffles were truly impressive; the simpler the dish, the harder it is to make it stand out, and these did just that, making me want to return. If you enjoy traditional Southern cuisine, you must add this place to your list.
